Large Scale Central

Anyone tried to build/bash a Baldwin 2-4-2T like this?

This is my first attempt at photos, so I hope this works. The Bear Harbor No. 2, BLW 2-4-2T is one of my favorite locos. Anyone tried to do one of these in large scale? One photo here is the BLW builder’s photo; the other is one I took myself in 1958, of what was left. She is now in Samoa, Humboldt Bay Area, of California.

Ideas?

Dennis

Well, that worked half-way. So, here’s what was supposed to be the first photo. Sorry about the duplicate in original post.

She’s a nice locomotive and not un-typical those days in Northern California. But I haven’t noticed much commercially available in large scale to provide a beginning.

Maybe a third time will work. Don’t know why Photobucket cropped off the end of the last photo.

Dennis

Sorry guys. I don’t know why it’s doing that.

I need a break.

An AristoCraft Rogers would be a good start.
It’s drivers are about 45mm and wheelbase 75mm.
You would need to extend the saddle tank towards the back, add domes and new cab/bunker and you will be almost there.

Either a Rogers or the LGB Porter would work. If you want l a live steam version the Accucraft Ruby would work as well as the Roundhouse Sammie.

Im starting a conversion using the Roundhouse Sammie and making it into a Forney type locomotive. Im extending the back and adding trucks to the back.

The LGB Porter is a smaller loco with wheels much smaller than the Rogers. The Rogers wheels look undersized as they are.

Hi Dennis, it’s not Photo bucket’s fault, the image is larger that 800 pixels wide and the forum crops it off, one can still see the full image in most browsers by right clicking on the image and selecting “view image”. If you want the full image to show you will need to resize it to 800 pixels wide.
