I just realized that I have one in Shay 117…but I have no idea where the manual is…Question is…can I interface it somehow with a Sierra or other sound and get a playable whistle? Or should I just chuck it and get a new EVO?
I remember it, but ain’t familiar with it…I don’t think it’s even on the market anymore.
What about contacting Reeds here in San Diego for a manual?
Regards, Greg
Too easy. That’s like stopping to ask directions. No self respecting Large Scaler would ever stoop that low!
Bart… You’re going a loooooooooooooong way back on this one. Soundtraxx still has the tech bulletin on their web site. Tech Note #6, bottom of page 5.

Does it still work? Mine died years ago…
I think I would put a new R/C system in.
Errrr yeah…it works Dandy…So do all the EVOs I bought over the years…but I’m not really savvy at reading schematics…4 wires is about my limit…anyone can translate?
Hi, Bart.
Yes, it looks possible. Look at the second Reeds diagram (Battery R/C version). Bell and whistle are available on the Soundtraxx module in the diagram.
The LM317 (and nearby components) supply filtered and regulated DC power to the Soundtraxx module and the back end of the opto-isolators.
ISO1 tells the Soundtraxx that the motor is turning in the “forward direction”. ISO2 does the same for “reverse”.
Apparently the sound module has a different whistle for going “forward”, “reverse”, and (come to think of it) “stopped”.
The rest of the wiring is pretty straight forward, (system grounds tied together, whistle to whistle, bell to bell, etc.), just wire it as the diagram shows.
The components are available through Digi-Key or Radio Scrap@.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Joe Satnik

Are you looking for a manual whistle? The stuff Joe is writing about sounds like automatic whistle triggers based on direction selected.
Yes Manual whistle…preferrably using Chan 2 off the same RC rig…
