Pictures of the 850?
We all define ‘sports car’ differently. If it’s primary purpose is driving to me that’s a ‘sports car’. My friend has an old Morgan, couldn’t get out of the way of a sloth. Button up top, side curtains…Pure sport in my book. He let me drive it once, crazy fun! And I guess that’s it, I just want fun in the sun. 
Oh, and all I’m good for is putting gas in the tank…changing a tire maybe.
Bob, if the cockpit of the Elise is anything similar to the Lotus Europa, and you’re tall in stature and a little round around the middle, you won’t fit. It does look tiny, and I’ve seen a couple around Chicagoland, but never got up close to one.

Nice SSR, I’ve always liked them retro cars that came out from Chevy and Dodge. Google “El Camino SSR”, a custom builder mated the bodywork from a '59 El Camino to an SSR, sharp car.
H1 Hummer, another favorite, only items missing from yours Dan, is a snorkel kit and a .50 cal
I brought back with me from being stationed in Germany an Opel GT. Totally different car then the ones they sold in the US. The US version had a Vega engine and trans, Piece of junk. Mine was set up for Autobahn running. As soon as the kid outgrew the (?) “Back seat” had to get rid of it. Boy do I wish that I still had that car now in my old age… Fast and nimble, Had a 4 speed in it. BTW: mating was possible inside, with the doors closed.
Sorry no pix, '67 850 spyder with the nice glass over the headlights… they had to give up that nice look because the glass was not safe to a pedestrian if you hit him… mine was yellow too
I had a 1966 Mustang 2+2 fastback - red with the full pony interior back in 1971 - a year before I could get my drivers license. Had it for about 9 years, then traded for an Opel GT. GT required an engine rebuild and some body work before it was ready for the street. I was lucky as it was one of the few that had air conditioning in it - needed that for living in south Florida at the time. That was the last fun car - kids had come along and needed transportation to be more family friendly. Would love to have another Opel as it was the most fun to drive.
This was my Fix It Again Tony, my brother bought it from a professor and my Dad bailed him out and gave it to me. It wasn’t an imported model, but shared the same engine and most body parts with one that was. I even found the hard top that I refinished. Mine was baby blue.
Drove it to Palomar college and Palomar mountain, but mostly all over north Sandy Eggo county, plus one trip to Everson Washington and back.
A blast with a 4 speed… I left 850s in the dust! The 124 was faster…
Fiat 1500 Cabriolet I moved the dual rear view mirrors to above the front wheels. Made freeway lane changes easier when racing thru traffic… hey, that’s what we did in the 70s. Body by Pinafarina (before Ferrari…) that’s the emblem on the front wheel panel.

Actually the Opel was called the “Baby Vette.”
I owned an Opel GT for a few years in the mid 80’s, but never drove it. Bought it from a garage for a good price, but could never get any proof of ownership papers. Spent some time working on restoring it, but never got even close to paint. I don’t even remember if it ran. Eventually sold it for scrap because my father-in-law wanted it out of his garage. That was as close as I ever came to having a sports car.
Yes John C. we’d wind those 850 Fiats up as tight as they would go, but I think they had 48 horse… they weren’t fast, but fun, about 4 of us had them and we would drive in formation in the streets of Orange County terrorizing the neighborhood (or so we thought ha ha).

BTW, I will NEVER buy a Fiat again…you know you’re in trouble when the Italian mechanic says you REALLY need to sell this car…

The first car I ever owned was a 1955 Citroen L15 like this.
My second car was also a Citroen.
This time a British made Big 6 like this:
I have an electric Fiat 500e for close in running, it’s great, not one problem once I got the wireless module changed out (could not remote control the car).
Quiet, very fast from the torque of the motor, free (yes free), and reliable… of course the Italians only made the body, the electronics are all Bosch.

1983 Rabbit Convertible. Maybe not a sports car, but it was a lot of fun in the sun.
My uncle owned this car. Every relative asked if he would sell it to them. He always replied, “I will put you on the list, you are number 100.” Having heard this reply numerous times, I never bothered asking him. One day he offered it to me.
Whenever I was stopped at a light people from 9 to 90 would comment, “Cute Car.” Like him, everyone person I knew wanted to buy it from me.
Drove it for 13 years before selling it for $1200. Because it was never winter driven, it was still in good condition at 22 years old.

Rooster would love to have a VW Rabbit Convertible. It (like most VW cabriolets/convertibles) is considered to be one of the ultimate “chick cars.” (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)
