Dallee’s a pretty good sound system. They’ve got nice sounds, at least the ones I’ve heard. The $109 version is “automatic” in that it plays random sequences of whistles every time the whistle/horn is triggered. This is great for railroads that use track magnets to trigger sounds, so you’re not hearing the s-a-m-e whistle pattern every time the loco passes the magnet. The $99 version has a “playable” whistle that sounds for as long as you hold the button down. If you’re going to use these systems with something like Airwire or Revolution, go with the $99 version. They’re not Phoenix, but they’re half the price. I did a review in GR a few issues back of their steam systems.

Dallee’s boards are monophonic, in that they play only one sound file at a time. When you blow the whistle or ring the bell on the steam sound systems, the chuff cuts out. The diesel sound systems have a workaround to this, where the horn sound is already blended with the motor sound, so you hear the horn and the motor. I don’t know if the doodlebug systems have that feature or not–best to call and ask. To my knowledge the sounds themselves are not yet on Dallee’s web site, but they do have .wav files they can send you to audition the sounds.

I have an auto board in my #50 switcher…Great sound for the price, but the auto horn un-nerves me…but I use RC and want to blow my own horn

Call Dallas from Dallee, he’ll even play it over the phone for you if you wish!!

I finally found the Dallee vids on U tube.
I’m not too impressed.
They are ok in a pinch I guess.
I’m not to sure I would spend my hard earned money on them.
I don’t think they have got that goodha sound.
I may take a closer look at QSI if I don’t have to change to DCC.
I’m running DC and I don’t think I can afford to change to DCC unless I find a big bunch of money under a rock somewhere.
Well it gives me something to research over the Holidays.
Merry Christmas to all, and thanks for all of your input.

I don’t really think that was the original question though?

I have been using Dallee sound for many years in battery R/C installations.
They are reliable and the diesels sound quite good.
However, until the “Automatic” version became available they were not that good for regular track track magnet installations. The trigger was just that. A brief Parp for the horn or a single ding for the bell. Now they play randomised bell and horn sounds.

Whilst they are monophonic, that is not really noticeable with the diesels, but it is really noticeable with the steam sound. The chuff disappears completely in the ones I have heard.

…winking…

Jerry;
You have a QSI/G-wire card in that triplex?
That sound really good.
You say all I need is QSI/G-wire and NCE pro gardenwire cab throttle is all I need.
SO what’s that?
So I’m a dummy, what is QSI/G-wire and NCE pro gardenwire cab throttle?
Can it be used in DC sys? Where can I get it, and how much will it cost if I can use it on my track?
I don’t have a lot of money right now.
My van died just days before Christmas and I to either repair it or trade it. Since the needed repairs come to 5 grand I opted to trade it.
So now I have a car payment.

Jerry;I don’t have the money for a DCC conversion.
The sound is nice but I don’t have the money to be changing all my trains over to DCC.
I’ll most likely stay dc.
It’s not nice being a poor working boy.

Nope not QSI/G-wire in the MTH Triplex whole different breed of animal on dat one!! If you wants to know more about what I've said get ahold of me. Don't like to tread too much on threads, there are other system police on sites that try to get revolutionary on me and other things. What I profess is to me the best most Easey Peasey cost effective in the long run, but it does take somewhat of an investment the first time out!! But den after you have tried all the rest you'll have more money in all doz anyways and den you will have wished you would have went the way of the QSI/G-wire in the first place. Regal

Well, I would venture to say I'm way poorer than you, but den dats another story!! I just knows what I knows and believes in, and there's nothing out there TODAY as we speak here, that would sway me NOW knowing what I have learned the hard way for the past 3 years. Thank you's go out to Noel W. Greg E. of Kalifornia, and PimanJc of Kansas for helpin me along the way!! Technically and electronically speakin dat is!! Regal

what are you wanting to put the sound in? Sorry if I missed it-flu like symptoms today :frowning:

Did you get the last GR mag where Kevin reviewed 3 sound units?

there was another: http://www.smallscalerailway.com/

We have some of the Small Scale Railway units. They are ok for a very basic sound system. Their small size is the biggest selling point. They will fit into a N scale box car if you get creative. I also have one mounted in the fuel tank of a USA F-3. It’s better than no sound but not great.

The last time I talked with the guys at Small Scale Railway they said the boards were being redesigned. But that was over a year ago so I’m not sure what the status is now.

Jon.

I run G scale

As mentioned in the email sent you, Dave Goodson has some NOS Sierra Soundtraxx in Diesel...that would work brilliantly!
