Large Scale Central

Anybody here running indoors on overhead shelf work?

I am hunting for others that run indoors on overhead shelf work. For the time being, we are installing our large scale indoors on overhead shelfs around our living room. I am using 1x6 planks of various lengths for the straight sections along with nice wood shelf brackets. My problem lies in making the shelf nicely follow the curves in 2 places. In two places I just cut the curve from a sheet of plywood and stained it to match the rest of the layout. Those corners feature ceramic xmas buildings behind the track, but the other 2 places require the shelf to follow the track as one bridges the hallway and the other is the entryway to the kitchen. When we lived in our mobile home, I just cut the wood in short straight sections, while it worked, it lacked the nice professional look of the rest of the layout. Looking for help and ideas. Other than my hand held jig saw, I lack a good way to cut curves from wood. Anybody live near Kokomo IN wanna help out? Thanks Mike and Michele T

Mike,
not cheap, but Ridge Road Station carries overhead railroad supplies.

Here’s some fancy stuff…

I am building my own, the track along is expensive enough, speaking of track, I need 17’ of LGB straight track, either 1 footers or 2 foot sections. Used and dirty is fine, the rest of mine has a good years worth of outdoor weathering to it. Anybody got any to spare and have a paypal account? Thanks Mike

Here is my progress, I have thought about putting solid shelf corners in on all sides, I can fab up some supports to go upwards to the ceiling to support them. I have quite a nice collection of xmas buildings I want to put out. Hopefully I can get some more done after I job hunt in the morning. Mike

Looking good, Mike.
I thought about doing something similar a couple years ago.
Good luck with the job hunt.

Our 45mm test loop at the shop is mounted high up. Simple loop with a short passing siding.

Runs just above the window and door frames.

Looks great Hans, nice overhead loop. I might look into a passing siding in the future, for now ours will be single track. Mike

Mike
