Any updates on REVO?

The “old” and “new” style transmitters use different screens. I’ve got a spare screen from an old-style transmitter, but John’s half-dead screen is on a new-style transmitter. (Plastic keys vs. rubber keys, for those wondering how to tell the difference.)

I’ll be glad to see the Revolution make a return to the market, and I hope they can finally come through with their promises of improved sound. Even with the newer DCC decoders and wireless receivers coming down in price, you’re still looking at $250ish for receiver plus sound/motor decoder. If they can get good quality sound (not what they had) and a receiver for around $150, I think they’d do well. If they go with a sound receiver at that price point, though, I’d like to see them bring back the non-sound receiver for those who either don’t want sound or want to pair it with a 3rd-party sound system.

Later,

K

When I installed my first receiver (diesel sound) there was no ‘sound’. It was not till I reread Dave’s online notes that I realized ya had to plug in the speaker to the receiver board to have sound.

Andy - that is the exact symptom that the one I worked on displayed - give it a shot!

Dave, Appreciate the info… That is exactly what the problem was… Opened the case and pushed the ribbon connector in and it works fine…

Thank you…

That is good news, Andy - thanks for letting me know that it worked!

Hmmmm, think I’ll stay in the Airwire universe, especially since I’m in the minority that considers “sound” to be an annoyance.

So do you make TOC turn off the sound when you visit him?

For people who don’t need sound, heck, you can use almost anything, AirWire might be overkill, unless you want to doublehead/consist.

Greg

Now, you are just trying to poke me. I use my own stuff, when I visit the CCRy, and the other folks are far enough away that I can ignore them.

Yeah, I want to doublehead/consist. I have three Dash 9’s and two SD-45s, two GP 9’s that I want to work together, as noted in the OP. You did read that, didn’t you? Poke, poke. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)The Geep’s already have Drop-ins.

Noise pollution is something I avoid…glad to hear that I’m not the only one.

I’m beginning to see that more, and more YOUNGER people are having to wear hearing aids, all due to hearing loss due to NOISE POLLUTION.

When is the general public going to finally realize the problems that NOISE POLLUTION causes…?

Besides extra electronics for other things like more light drivers, high current smoke drivers, the main costs are in the microprocessor and the DRAM.

What’s wrong with bringing back the original Revo non-sound receiver in addition to the “souped up” sound version? That’s what I’m talking about–a 2-tiered approach. The old style receiver could be had for $80 give or take when it was new. It’s not obsolete technology by any means, and I would expect any new transmitter software to remain back-compatible with the original receivers already in use. One could offer this “no-frills” version at a low price point for those who don’t want the bells and whistles (literally and figuratively), and a second souped-up with sound, smoke, lights, etc. at a higher price point for those who do.

Steve, I like sound for the first 10 minutes indoors, then its annoying. Outdoors I like it, if its not too loud, for a longer period of time. But I do agree, sound can become very annoying.

But, as someone else found out in another thread, if you don’t want sound, don’t plug in the speaker. And if the Revo does come back, someone, somewhere, will eventually have a deal on them. Like buy so many receivers and get one half off, or buy so many and get one free, or something like that. It may be when they first come back, to revive the market, or it may be later, once the demand has cooled a bit, but if they stay in production long enough, a deal will come around. Then you can get them, not hook up the speaker, and have what you want…sort of.

Yes, revolution will be back in January. As Greg has stated, revolution is a great product. Granted it does not have all the bells and whistles as QSI. But for the price and how easy it is to use, it is well worth it. Just don’t connect the speaker if you don’t want sound. But trains without sound??? interesting…

Usually turned off the sound when around Fred, (unless we want to annoy him!). But when running at shows the sound feature of the Revo always draws a response from the general public, for the most part never heard a disparaging word. If you don’t want sound don’t plug it in.

So…January, eh? Did they happen to mention a year? (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

(Sorry for my scepticism, but I have a note from way back in 2013 that says that their USB plug was in stock, but that they could not ship yet because they were working on the web for downloads. I suspect it’s still not quite ready; after all nobody else has ever created a system to download files through the web… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif))

You’re sounding like me.

…since I really would have no need of the DCC capabilities that AirWire brings… unless, as I said, I wanted consisting/double heading…

Probably a personal choice, but just in case someone ‘new’ is not aware;

The first one i found does go back a few yrs to the ‘beginning’, but I’ve always thought this was “doubleheading”, aka MU .

Or maybe I’m not be ‘up’ on this year’s terminology/slang (ex. sick vs sick ) ?
