Any groundthrows permit automatic use?

Extending Steve’s inquiry regarding groundthrows…

Are there any groundthrows that are engineered so locomotives can self-activate the switch mechanism to permit passage?

Thanks,

Wendell

A spring switch does just that, but it only functions from the trailing point. Plenty of people have built homemade spring switches here on this forum.

Aristo switches will function as a spring switch with no modification. They do reqire metal wheels as plastic isn’t heavy enough to push the point over. They do not snap into the new position, but rather spring open then close as each wheel set passes.

This was really simple to make. The wheels nudge the points and they snap to the other rail.

Tom’s can also be set to function as a ‘slide by’ type… just depends on how the holes line up.
