Just an excuse for another camping trip.
A couple of weeks ago we headed out to Eastern Oregon’s High Desert country for a week.
Our usual camping spot, Collier State Park, is closed this year for renovation of facilities so we tried a new place called Water Wheel RV Park. Strange name but I’ll get to that in a minute.
These 2 RV camping areas are very close to Train Mountain and the Collier Logging Museum, also nearby is an Indian Casino with all kinds of things to offer.
The Water Wheel RV park was a very pleasant surprise. Located right on the Williamson River with large open sites and plenty of area to walk the dogs. This also included an island of about a half acre that you can let the dogs run loose, great fun for them.
Apparently this island was created by the Farm Bureau back in the 1930’s when they cut a channel across a bend in the river and installed a water wheel driven pump for farm irrigation. The pump station is still there sorta and gives the park it’s name.
A look inside at what’s left of the old pumping equipment. They still pump water for irrigation nearby but it is all electric pumps and PVC pipe now days.
Now a token picture from Train Mountain. This is Lillyville at the bottom of the hill. Remember this is
7 -1/2 inch gauge ride on scale, those buildings are huge compared to our scale.
Then at the logging museum I found a new addition that I measured and photographed for a build.
I’ll use this at the new log landing as an auxiliary water tank for the donkey.
