Matt Drennan has announced the closing of Wisconsin Illinois Trains
Matt was a former manager at St. Aubins.

Bummer!
Yup, That just sucks…
A darn shame. I know they had not been in business for long, less than two years, but I was pleased to see them grip the nettle and open a new store. The recession, high taxation and shipping costs, plus a pretty full cupboard of stock, meant that I have purchased very little from the States in the last two years.
I get the impression that it won’t be long before we hear of Matt , in railroading circles, in the future.
I wish him, and his Staff, well.
Where does it confirm this in writing?

My mistake.
I didn’t scroll down far enough.
An independent source has since informed me as to what happened. Sad news indeed.
Yes, sad news indeed… So sorry to hear that…
The best to you, Matt…
Thanks for the kind words all of you trains have been my life for 14 years now and this one hurt the most but as everyone tells me when life hands you lemons make lemonade so give me time to regroup and hopefully i will see you all again.

Bummer.
Sorry Matt, hope to see you selling trains again soon.
Best of luck to you!
oh, no! I was looking forward to seeing Matt at York this year.
Sad news, don’t know the circumstances but its never good whenever a shop closes, whatever the reasons.
Interesting, wish the best to Matt.
Dang. Never even got to buy anything from him.
Matt, I too was looking forward to seeing you and your crew at York.
Good luck, and hang in there pal.
I just got started in G and looks like a lot of shops and business are going out what a shame
Hi Michael:
TrainWorld is an excellent dealer. Register with them for automatic emails of their blowouts.
You are actually getting started in G at the right time as many of the bad products have been reviewed or are no longer in production such that you know what you are buying unlike most of us who have been the Beta testers.
Also there is now a mature product line available such that you can decide what era of trains you wish to model as opposed to us old guys who bought the newly introduced product as things came along including the Bachmann change of scales from 1:22.5 to 1:20 after folks had already purchased large amounts of 1:24 and 1:22.5 product meaning 1:20 was a no go even if you liked the large size of the 1:20 models.
G Scale Junction is another excellent dealer.
Both of the above are honest dealers.
At present the Canadian Postal service have raised shipping rates due to falling letter volume and increased gasoline costs such that the item must be a must have for me to pay the new shipping costs. The old days of cheap postage and cheap trains are over. Hence mail order dealers are having a tough time of it presently.
So pick your era and scale ( 1:22.5 or 1:20 ) for narrow gauge and / or ( 1:29 or 1:32 ) for standard gauge to plan your purchases wisely. You actually are now buying at the maturing of the large scale with a broad product selection. Still a good time to start in.
Norman
It’s great to read all your positivity, Norman! Michael there’s also 1:24. Old and obsolete but I love it. Research the choices. LSC is a great place to start. Most of us very happy to answer questions from a newbie. You can learn a lot from our mistakes!!! Cheers!
