Another firearm massacre in the States

News just in of another massacre, this time near the Alabama/Florida border, at a town called Sampson. Reportedly, a domestic dispute resulted in all the gunman’s immediate family being killed. In the ensuing police chase, several people were shot dead. Latest fatality count reportedly 13, including the gunman.

My condolences to all the families affected by this terrible act of GUN violence.

Those damn Chinese just had to invent gun powder, didn’t they!
I’m sure someone else would have stumbled upon it sooner or later.

Yessir, that eeevil gun, just walked into that home and shot up all them poor innocent folks. Thanks again Tony for offering condolences.

Gloria: “65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns”
Archie Bunker: “would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?”

Tony,
did you really expect any other response than to trivialise another massacre. I am sure the relatives of the slain family, the officer’s dead family and the other families of slain persons would not consider the act trivial.

You two deserve each other. Why don't you get married.

David,
marriages between similar gender, unlike the States, are not legal in Australia. Very strange that you would even consider the thought. Maybe you have some latent homosexual tendencies under that macho gun-toting personality of yours?

Well, this guy looks like a nut case, so he may very well be, but if what he says is true, it is certainly interesting.

I know, guns have been “outlawed*” in Britain for a while, but he quotes stats that say this has been the case for two decades and more.

You can have my Cub Scout knife when you can pry it from my cold, dead, hands.

*Guns being “outlawed” means that only outlaws will carry guns.

Burned his mother’s house down…with her in it.
Used a rifle…not a handgun.
A terrible tragedy.

This awful tragedy has echoes of the Hungerford massacre here in UK in 1988. Michael Ryan, a loner with rather odd views on life, first shot his mom, then set afire to the house, then went on a totally unapposed killing spree around the country town of Hungerford, killing another fifteen and injuring thirty+, before killing himself when he got holed up in a local school.

The gubmint response to that was to ban all semi-auto centre-fire firearms, even though his main weapons were two handguns.

My heart goes out to all those affected by this latest tragedy.

No amount of ‘I told you so’s’ will help in matters like this.

It is the criminal who commits the crime, not the tool he uses to do it.

Ask 300,000 Rwandans about the machete.

How can that be when I have so many of them?

C’mon, Steve, you know that’s not true.

What guns were then turned in to the government? By “having” these guns, tac, are they accessible within seconds if needed?

I can right now, reach into my pocket for a .25 automatic, if someone knocks on my door and has bad intentions. (do not attempt to say, Tony, that it never happens in the utopia you live in). As I understand it, in “the mother country” you Brits and the “Aussies and Kiwis” are NOT allowed to have any way or means of defending your home and hearth. Again, I may have a misunderstanding of your laws.

I also understand Olympic Shooters and other sportsmen must store guns in gubmint approved lockers on the gubmint approved ranges, but only gubmint approved weapons are allowed. Other good Brits, as I understand (since I obviously do not live there) prefer (or must) travel outside of England to shoot their sport with the guns they own, and did not hand over to be destroyed.

The UK has moved a long way from the Magna Carta. No?

Terry,
It is much easier to subdue a gunman when his gun stops working.
Just ask the heroes at the Baptist church last Sunday.
No gun.
No more killing.

Now there’s a plan. Just stand by, bleating and bleeding until a psychopath with a gun runs out of ammo or the 1/10,000 chance his gun jams. Then counter attack.

You really have your brain on backwards, or can’t possibly be posting what the common sense you were born with tells you is true and false.

David,
if the psychopath did not have a weapon in the first instance, then no one would need to await him discharging his clip before reacting.

How is it possible to keep guns out of the hands of psychopaths. Even in your country, them have guns.

Obviously our two little pitbulls did not read my posting on another thread, or they would have jumped at this statement. Maybe because the posting response was more than one sentence in length it taxed their little canine brains.

Quote: “A Scientific American article (June 1999) accounts for the high murder rates in the South on the grounds of a “culture of honor”. A white man living in a small county in the South is four times more likely to kill than one living in a small county in the Midwest. Southerners showed higher levels of cortisol and testosterone in response to an insult. Murder rates due to arguments are higher in the South and Southwest, but murder rates associated with felony (robbery or burglary) are lower.”

The killer had been sacked from his workplace and took his anger out on the closeknit community around him.
