Another expansion thread?

I got tired of reading about everyone else’s and decided to get off my duff and start mine. The area it will occupy is where the above ground pool used to be so it’s reasonably flat. Here’s a track plan I threw together so I have something to go by.

I had to adjust it somewhat as I didn’t take into consideration the clothes line when doing the planning. The existing layout is to the left at Mancos.

Tying it into the existing track. Had to move the siding at Mancos which is better since the new siding will be a bit longer.

Mainline roadbed completed and track going down. This also give me a better idea of where the pond and water fall will eventually go.

With very little fanfare the “gold spike” was hammered in and RGS #20 heads out over the new track.

#20 passes through the area that will eventually become the town of Hespurus with a passing siding and some industry sidings.

A lumber mill and pond is planned for this area and switches and sidings added later.

Future updates will be made as progress continues.

Go Ken go! After being there, I was able to pick out the area of expansion from your sketch. That will make nice long runs. What is your plan about all that green stuff? Are you going to leave it or do your part for the environment and eliminate the need to run the infernal combustion engine over the area with in the loop?

Ric, that area will all be sceniced (sp?). A small town , a lumber mill and a pond , plus sidings for various industries with more operational possibilities. But till that happens I’ll have to keep the push mower tuned up…

Looks good Ken. You have been busy.
What software did you use to do the plan?
Ralph

RRTrack v.4 It’s sectional track plan program, but it gives me a basic idea of what I can fit into an area, both track-wise and building-wise. It has libraries for most of the track brands on the market, plus both Pola and Piko buildings.

Might help if I provide a link: http://www.rrtrack.com/

Ken: I like the expansion. I found the worst aprt of expanding is digging up the grass. Keep us posted on your progress.

That looks like a lot more than just a mere expansion.

Lots of work, and it looks good.

Nice addition, Ken… The plan looks good, with the different switching possibilites…

Yeah ? How ya gonna get that big green monster inside the loop ??? I have the exact same tractor/trailer combo, although mine looks a lot more tired than yours :)

The expansion looks good Ken. Your smart and don’t post until you have real progress. I foolishly talk about starting a project and then start showing little progress 3 years later :o

That's what they make Roundup for :D

Exactly! It's been hit with it, just hasn't shown the result yet.

Well, Jon, you can pat yourself on the back, both you and Shawn’s post’s on what you guys were doing is what got me started.

Ken,
That’s “tits on a boar hog”

As a further update the siding at Mancos has been realigned.

A passing siding at the future location of Hespurus was added the other nite.

And landscaping has begun. Picked up a few ground covers from Lowe’s but got rained out before they were planted.

Looking good, Ken…

Looking good Ken !

I envy your full sun gardens, it’ so easy to find plantings. Then again maybe I don’t. Sure is nice to sit in the shade of the big Maple and Pine trees.

I see the Roundup did its job.
You are making good progress.
Raining here today also.
Ralph

Ken, Nice looking expansion of the RR. Near the beginning of the thread I saw in your photos a white support under the track…what is it called and who makes it? dave

Spend enough time on LSC and you can answer your own questions…that ladder support is a neat way to build roadbed…I don’t have a RR yet and am looking at different ways to construct one…most local guys build on crusher fines…and relevel track, ect far too often for my liking…

I approve of everything but the gardening. hehehe!

Nice job on the expansion. Should make for some fine ops too. You have a terrific looking property there by the way.

Looks good Ken…watch those coral bells in moderate to full sun as I fried my first round of them. Second round seems to be doing well.

Ken: that expansion is looking great. Your making fast progress.
