And you thought that language is simple? Definitely OT!

We all know that language can be tricky i.e the Italian “burro” (butter) becomes a donkey in Spanish.

But the following snippet from the “Spiegel” newsmag beats that by miles.

The light beer - referred to as “Hell” brewed in this Austrian town finally got permission to sell it “as named”. Don’t rush to Austria! it will only be available by late summer.
BTW the dateline is 2010/03/31 not 2010/04/01!!

…and ‘mist’ is German for ‘dung’. No wonder Rolls-Royce did not name one of their cars ‘Silver Mist’.

Oh please please please sell this brew over here!!!

Oh no! That’s rich.

I was never much into comic books, but the neighbor boy was, so we’d occasionally read comic books together. He had one with a U-Boat captian who would always shout “HELL ROT!” Forest thought that was some sort of German cuss word. I never told him he was shouting “Pink!”

Ok. I gotta know: Why would a captain shout “Pink!” on a German U-Boat?

(Oh, wait… it’s like “One Pink Only, Vassilly…” in Red October…)

Matthew (OV)

He shouts ‘Hellrot!’ for the same reason that in Finland, to express outrage or anger, they shout 'In the restaurant!!!

Who knows?

To steer this in the direction of railways, in Switzerland there's a railway company in the Tessin called "FART", another one used to be called SOB until they algamated with a second railway.

“Ich bin ein Berliner.” can be translated as “I am a jelly donut”

Just think you could have said that FART is going to be an SOB!

Out here in the wild west of beautiful downtown Deer Park, we take our “outrage and anger” outside, there being only one restaurant of any note. The downside of that is falling on the horse apples.

In OUR house, we say ‘Azoy!’.

Hey, Steve, how’re them Crosby Boys making out these days? We hear that Bing is going into the movies!!

What are movies, and who is “Bing.”

Oh, you must mean the talkies, and that young Crosby feller. Don’t think he will amount to much.
