Large Scale Central

And so it grows

Within the last 3 months, we’ve had an increase in new signups, and a bunch of new posters. I’d like to take this opportunity to both welcome them, and to make sure they feel welcome and appreciated.

If you are new here, and haven’t yet posted, try posting a “Hey, I’m new here” with your interests in large scale trains, and maybe some photos. We’d love to hear from you.

Hoping to get some help with connecting train engineer system

The original Crest TE? I’m sure there’s people here that can help you out. I know George Schreyer has some pages on the TE here.

If it’s the 55470.

FWIW I am still using the 55470 as power for my track powered ground layout, works fine for years.
Feel free to ask questions on that topic if you wish. Now I also use the Crest Revolution (Revo) the updated 2.4 GigHz system for my battery powered trains.

Welcome Richard. That should be a simple request for the brain trust here! Ask away!

I have two or three but I done remember much since I haven’t had to change anything for several years … You might find some info here Greg

Wow thanks for all the support.
I read that and have gotten an older set working. My current issue has me stumped and wondering what I could be missing.
It’s at the start. I hook it to the power pack DC with cord supplied. When I turn power pack on and increase throttle the amps spike and fuse blows out. Tried several packs and several of the train master receivers.
( note: I did not connect it to the track yet and was just getting it on to be able to connect to the transmitter but can’t get there)

Welcome aboard, Richard!

Richard,
Welcome!!
If you could post some pictures of what you are working with it would avoid a lot of confusion.

Basic train engineer ART-5471 receiver
And the last power supply tried train power 6000

Well considering you have used different power packs I’m not sure. However I do see that you have this one switched to “Pulsed Power” which could be the problem. You need PURE FILTERED DC output. Can you show us the wiring connections on both your power pack and TE receiver.

I turn on power supply and when increase throttle I get overload and the train engineer component never shows power.

The TE is turned off and the picture really doesn’t show your wiring . I also thought you said that you had no output wires from the TE receiver.

Sorry. I tried it again and then tried with wires to track just in case
No difference when I turned on/off the unit

Richard,
I’m gonna give this one last shot here.

First off “Because I just assumed”
1…“The fuse that keeps blowing”…Is it the 10amp ATO red fuse in the Train Engineer Receiver or is it the glass inline fuse on the power cord from the power pack to the TE receiver because you did say you were using the power cord that came with the TE’s.
If it is the cord with the glass fuse try another cord (with a fuse).

2…I looked up the MRC 6000 online and noticed there is a straight DC output on the back. Have you tried that?

3…Also the 6000 has a reversing loop feature on it and I don’t know if the switch is turned on or off or if it is even possible?

I would check things in steps. First make sure your power pack is putting out what you expect.

i would second that.
and raise to “small steps”

(to not only see if it works, but to understand how it works)
