No wonder my ancestors left!

I think that mine left one step ahead of the law…
They were involved in the honorable profession of smuggling, and the customs agents got greedy, and upped the squeeze. Great grandfather wouldn’t have any of that, and pulled up stakes, leaving the customs agents to try to get along on a gummint salary… or so goes the story.
My family was given permission to leave on 7/14/1865 in the 29th year of the reign of Queen Victoria. The paperwork of my namesake hangs on the wall in our home. Yeah, it is important to us.
That’s interesting.
All we really know about my family was a guy named “Spier Ruby” left New York heading west in the 1880s.
Truly the mind boggles!
