An overwhelming majority of Australians support

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24461769-5012572,00.html

…and this is published by a (very) Conservative publication owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Tony,

Some facts even Murdoch can’t “cook”.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but… so what? This isn’t an Aussie election.

Ray.
Not specifically it isn’t.

However, the rest of the World does have a legitimate interest in the outcome given the actions of the USA do affect the rest of the World.

Once again I repeat, I am not commenting on domestic USA political issues.

Hey, I looked up “the Socialist Republic of” Switzerland in that poll. Absolutely shocking! 91% for Obama! Bloody Swiss are getting worse than the Swedes, they only have 87% for Obama. I bet you it’s the gnomes of Zürich skewing the results! They worry about “their” money, they just know that there will be a greater influx of American funds with Obama in charge, the “great patriots” will need some new and top secret accounts.

Golly gosh!!!

…and there is me not sure about Obama because he isn’t Socialist enough.

If the Aussies WANT 'im, the Aussies can HAVE him…and I know a bunch of people who would pitch in for his plane fare too

Golly gosh, indeed! The illustration Vic put up the other day? it was a rendition of hell after they empty the handbasket!

Mik, have a look at that Economist poll http://www.economist.com/vote2008 .... scary stuff, man. :D But there is a certain undercurrent, looks like clear distinctions between poles.

BTW people who voted in TGWN are 89% for Obama; there’s just no relying on your neighbours, is there? And the Mexicans? Feel the same way as us Canucks! Wonder why that is, eh?

Obama wouldn't be much use here. Obama is needed in the USA to bring back some normality to World relations.

You never know we might even get some leadership to combat Climate change.
Perhaps even some re-regulation of the crooks running Wall Street.

I want a President who’ll stand up for the interests of Americans, regardless of what the rest of the world thinks.

I think these polls dont mean the world loves Obama as too much as it says how sick and tired the world is of Dubya and his regime.

Dear All,

Some of you just don’t understand the meaning of the word “Party”.

If you want invitations to all the victory parties, galas, bashes and 4 years of dinner parties, you’d better suck up to the projected winner now.

(Obviously not “Semper Fi”) Colin Powell enjoys those parties, and wants continued government employment in the beltway (DC area).

Foreign polls are irrelevant to our election.

What are Australians (or their government, or their newspapers) hoping to get out of this? Trade status? US Presidential visits? Party invites for their ambassador?

What is Tony hoping to get out of this?

Victor,

Bush is being bashed with campaign rhetoric (propoganda) and he’s not even running. He is a good man doing an admirable job as president in trying times.

“No terrorist attacks on US soil since 9/11 under GWB’s watch” means something to me, and many other Americans. (Attempts have been thwarted.)

What will the “test” be for Obama that Biden talks about?

Which candidate do the terrorists want as president? (Now there’s a newsworthy poll, and you’ll never see it.)

As an American, I’ll be voting for the one that makes terrorists worried.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

I dont beleive its Bush’s terrorist record that has most people upset, its the pain in their pocketbooks. Remember the lesson of his father, he won what could be called the most popular war victory since WW2, Gulf War 1, then went on to lose re-election due entirely to the sour economy. You can argue one way or another whether the econ was in recovery and whos responsible for it, but the simple fact was that people blamed HW for it, and he paid the price on election day, I see the same dynamic going in here, again you can argue this one way or another, but thats what I see happening in the starkest most simplistic terms.

I’m NOT hoping for any personal gain at all.

Whilst my USA customers do provide a goodly proportion of my turnover, by no means do they provide all of it.
In the last 18 months the UK market has come to equal that of the USA.
My business is growing.
In fact you could say by me supporting a more liberal cause I am running the risk of alienating my USA customer base that has conservative beliefs.

I am a citizen of the World who just wants to see someone right the wrongs that Dubya has inflicted on the USA and by default the rest of the World.
The Conservative element led by the NeoCons have had their chance and blew it.
Do I think Obama would solve those problems?
I don’t know.
What I do know is, more of the same will not.

Please answer this question, Tony, HJ, Ralph, Mike, and Vic.

What has Mr. Obama done to garner such support. Just what has he accomplished in his life?

Oh, FYI, Bush is not running this time.

Obama’s popularity with Mexicans is due to the fact that he says he will give citizenship to all the people who are here in the U.S. illegally. By Obama’s count, that’s U.S. citizenship for 12 million criminals! If he is elected, I believe we can expect another illegal immigrant in-rush. Since he has said he will only allow federal enforcement of immigration laws, we probably can expect to be further inundated by low level criminals, but this time with no local enforcement assistance.

Steve’s point that Bush is not running seems to have escaped notice by the U.S. media and much of the rest of the world.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

Well Steve

(With tongue very firmly in cheek)
He impressed the great unwashed masses that read the “Economist” in a major way and they vote along those lines. As you know, ignorance knows no limit outside the borders of the USA and people are very receptive to the latest and greatest coming out of the “Land of the Free”. Since Obama is being marketed like some sort of new “Freedom Fries” (some like them well done!), it is not surprising that every one clamours to get into the parade.
And quite a few people probably figure “Enough already, Shrub was just too much!”.
BTW I can hardly wait for the Obama Super Fries from McCain’s.

PS Since the choice of the Economist poll is between McCain and Obama, not likely would anyone mix up McCain with Shrub, that is until they start looking at the program and see it’s the same tunes but a different arrangement. Pitched a bit higher, but not smarter!

What he said.

As to Bush the younger. Sure, he isn’t running, but Sarah Palin is. The mere thought she could conceivably end up Pres sends shivers down the spine of mine and other rational thinking peoples.

Not to worry Tony: Even in the unlikely event that Ms. Palin was called on to fill the position of U.S. President, she still can’t overturn Australia’s new government mandated censorship laws!
