Some of you may recall (though I can’t find the thread) my problem with AMS cars that looked great, but that I couldn’t pull without slipping the drivers on my consolidation and my 45 Tonner. While either of these locomotives would haul many MANY of the standard fare plastic cars (The consolidation once pulled a 40 car train just to see if it could …) more than four was just too much.
So… I got hold of Accucraft, and was referred to “Cliff.”
Cliff is sending me the brackets to brace the sideframes, and recommended lubing the journals on each car, as well as some run-in time (gee… do I have to run and run and run the train??) I discovered that one of the cars I bought from Jon B. awhile back already had the frames in place (Thanks Jon…) while I carefully applied the Labelles to each bearing surface…
What a difference.
I can now pull all four boxcars, the two gons, the tank, a flat, and the caboose with ease… and that’s just with the oil, as the sideframes obviously aren’t here yet. The car with the frames on it rolls better than any of them… and the caboose, which was the worst, is a changed animal with the oil in the journals, and on the contact surfaces on the back of the wheel.
Tomorrow’s project: Swap bases on SCRY #10 and the as yet unmodified 45 Tonner so #10 can be placed in service. And the list goes on…and on… and on…
