AMS REEFER

Heres my first atempt at weathering using an india ink wash followed by some chaulks. I’m quite happy with the results. I like that I can go pack over an area that is already dry and reactivate the ink if its not lookin quite right to me. After reading Matt Z’s post on his boxcar I shot the whole thing with dullcoat first.

Then came the ink wash.

Then the chaulks.

Side by side for comparison.

Camara kinda washes everything out a bit. I’m going to try and get to the other one tomorrow night. Thanks for all the tips.

Peter,

Great job on the weathering!

Hi Peter,

Nice work on the weathering job, makes a big difference.

I’d say you did a fine job for your first attempt.
I don’t weather my stuff…but do enjoy seeing the weathering done by others.

There ya go!
No there’ll be no stopping you.

Good work!

Very well done for first attempt. How long did it take? I learnt you can’t do this in one night, more like one night per color. Plus interruptions, paying job, shoveling snow…

Well actually I cheated it only took maybe three hours, but I sped up dry time by baking each layer under heavy worklights. I used to do auto refinishing and we would bake everything in between coats as well, figured it should work for this too. I could watch the rubbing alcohol evaporate, then hit it with the chaulks, then dullcoat. Dry to touch in about half an hour. Just dont get the lights to close or you get pliable plastic. Still waiting on free time to do the next one.

Ok got the other one done and took them outside. Waiting to be unloaded and no ones around, hope all the ice doesn’t melt.
