So, now we have AMS producing 1:29 rolling stock, I hear…or is someone thinking of their 1:32 line…?
Fred, it’s true. They have a very nice box car out…a PS 1 similar to USAT’s but in different names and even better detail. Art Knapp over in Surry BC has the Canadian dealership for those. And he has some really nice Canadian Roads. Price about $86 CN. Art Knapp Trains
…so does anyone in the US sell those? I 'spose they are exclusive to Art Knapp.
jb
They are just now starting to show up at US dealers. I had one sent to me to evaluate, very nice looking, the coupler will work with both Aristo Crafts and USA trains with no tinkering, this will make a nice transition car for sure. Lots of rather fragile detail, I have already managed to break some off and have not run it that much due the cold weather.
The one I was sent is in B&O sentnil livery and red Oxide.

BUT next time I talk to Bob at AK I’ll have to ask him what scale “G-Scale” is.

Oh wow, you now have a different color box to bash…It must seems like a Non-Denominational Swiss Holiday to you.

Not bashing any NA stuff in my workshop - regardless of box colour - I stick with RhB material.
Do you know Bob at AK Trains? No … then you didn’t get the joke!
PS It is a fairly safe bet that apart from the incorrect gauge, the AMS car will be smack on 1:29. None of the “matches essentially the major dimensions”. Or as a LGBoA employee likes to put it “As close to 1:29 as I can get”.
And I’d be very, very surprised if one would see slotted screws that hold the parts together from the outside. All this for Can$ 99.97?
Compare that with a LGB Railbox car at Can$93.58 … errrr sorry not a real comparison, is it??

Agreed…stick with what you like…I do.
Don’t get to Canada much…so I don’t know Bob or buy LGB there.
You are over-paying for LGB…buy closeouts at Trainworld for half the price you are paying.
Use filler to cover the slotted screws…if they bother you that much.

For those that don’t mind visiting the other place, Dave Winter did a review of the car and compared it with a USAT car…with lots of photos. Look in the Product Reviews forum.

Marvin,
I don’t buy LGB there, either. But I once recommended to Bob in order to increase the AMS sales even more, all he needed to do is set the AMS stockcar beside the LGB stockcar with prices clearly marked.
I don’t need any Railboxes, but it’s a crappy design if the fasteners are as obvious as they are. Of course there are a few other things that could be mentioned, too.
Like you claiming to have a workshop .
Where’s the work ?

Mike, Mike,
That’s really eating at you, isn’t it?? Or is it your “worry bone”??
Well you’re in “excellent” company, some other “Fritz” would dearly love to get pictures of my workshop and the progress on my projects.Let me assure you: very good progress this week.
A large shipment for Germany ready for UPS come Tuesday, customers waiting for product.
Good progress on the test/run-in track, a bit of progress on my turnouts and the kitbashing - MEK works perfectly on that heavy plastic that ModelPower specified, no need for UHU - is moving right along. Versatile little kit that “Aspen Ski Shack”, can be sliced and diced in many ways.

I agree, AMS is nice looking, but way too fragile for my hands to handle.
There are many more brands now. So, I’m sure you MUST find something you can like in the marketplace…somewhere…Even with the New Owner, I doubt that LGB will change, at least in the short term.
However, I will wait until March 1st before going into too much depth.
RRStation has some in stock. Click on Accucraft, then cars, then 1/29.
Then click the picture for a better view.

Seems Accucraft is doing the same thing Aristocraft does…a nice selection of Eastern railroads…and a bone for the rest of us… Guess I’ll have to go to Canada to get cars lettered for real railroads…
Warren,
I think their is a large missconception among the manufactures and dealers both that everything on the east side of the Mississippi River is standard gauge and everthing on the west is narrow gauge when it comes to large scale. A lot of manufactures in the narrow gauge end of the hobby have not done much to lay that thought aside either. I spent six years trying to get some of them to the ECLSTS with little to no results, those that did come in do a lot of business alaying the thought that Narrow Guage wont sell here, but they did not go home and spread the news either.
I thing once the cat gets out of the bag your going to see a lot more western Roand Names. It just seems to be taking forever.
In the mean time we can not get much in easter narrow gauge names other than the EBT.

And that’s even limited. I would like to have a few EBT items, short of decaling my own.
And Tweetsie.

Pretty nice box cars, though I haven’t seen one in the plastic.
