Ams passenger car

Someone brought me an AMS Jackson Sharp
Passenger car to check over. The lights do not work. This is a nice car with all metal trucks and well sprung.
Problem is all I see is two wires under each truck
connected to nothing and no sign of any power pick-ups. Does anyone have these cars and know how the power is picked from the wheels?

Also I tried to check amstrains.com and there is
No site. Are they still in business?

Thanks,
David

David,

The power wiper to the wheels were a cause of additional drag on the car, making it hard to pull more than a couple. Might have some stashed away as I remove them as well. I will try to look for some tonight.

Probably best to put a battery in it.

…and if you seldom run during darkness, why bother, or worry about it…

David,
To elaborate on the prior responses. … Yes, we throw the wipers away. I have many in the scrap box if you want some.
There is a 5V regulator chip attached to the wires, so the lights come on at anything over about 7V.
You could test it with a 12V supply or so.
A 9V radio battery works well. It can be squashed between the frames if you soften them with a bit of heat. Add a switch and a retainer to stop it falling out.
