Wow, looks real nice. Good job. Whats the dozer on the shelf below 3132?
great weathering job…
Beautiful!
The way all of us should ruin perfectly good models!
I still don’t have the art of weathering down. But that’s the first thing I (attempt) do to them before they are put in service.
Matt,
why dont you enligten us to your methods.
Thanks fellas! I used a mixture of chalks, ink wash, matte finish and dullcote finish, and airbrush to achieve my desired effect. I told some guys over on MLS that the next car I weather I will be sure to document how I did the job.
Cheers!
Matt
Gentlemen, Ok so I promised I would add a step by step of how I do these weathering processes. Well, it didn’t happen. The only uniform process from one car to the next is the fact that I start with dullcote. On this car I started on the ink stain after the dullcote. Added some chalks. Some more stain. And did touch ups until I was satisfied. Blacks, dark browns, and reds are the best chalks for the job in my opinion. For black cars I like using lighter chalks followed by some ink wash. Here are a few more pieces of rolling stock I have completed since my last post. As you can see I went two different routes on the stock cars. LIghter color I figured is more of a winter run or a car used more in the “woods”. I used reds and browns on the other stock car to try to make it look like it does “valley” running or more in high desert. Please let me know what you think. All input is very appreciated. I am still new at this and would only like to improve. Cheers! Matt Matt
Verrryyyyy nice!
I apply the ink wash before the dull coat. That’s where I might be having trouble.
I will try your method on the next model.
Hey John I also forgot to throw in there that I also use acrylics in my air brush. It seems to work very well!
Looking very good Matt. The dullcote first is a good tip. I’ll give that a try.
Ya it seems to make it adhere a little bit more successfully, let me know how it goes. I’m always interested in seeing how things turn out!
