Got to examine some of the new production ball bearing wheels today. Very nice radius flange profile on the new wheel. nice dark wheel color. Bearings appear to be double insulated from the axles, and the pick up /wiring tab is nice and strong, good for soldering if needed.

Jonathan,
Are they “Semi scale” flanges or scale flanges.
I have a pair of the older style Accu bb wheel sets and the flanges constantly picked my LGB 1800 switches and derailed. They were too scale.
I like the standard Accu wheels on the rolling stock with “semi” scale flanges.
I’ve had no problem with those.

I’ve had good luck with some Gary Raymond BB wheels with pickups(one per axle) on my Zephyr. They are not the super scale types though-don’t want those!
The size of the flange is not as important as the profile.A radiused flange will be lower friction and will self center on the track- think of it as always rolling downhill if you understand the physics. This stops the wheels and trucks from “hunting” and has a natural tendency to greatly reduce problems in curves and picking points at turnouts. These flanges are about the same size as before, just shaped correctly
Much improvement! The new style should work great. I just replaced the wheels on an Accu Jackson Sharpe coach. What a difference! It rolls away with just a gentle nudge. These are nice wheels!
I’m installing the NEW ball-bearing wheel sets on my three Accu J&S coaches. They are very nice!
