Large Scale Central

American Standard Car Company F40PH G scale loco question

Hi all,

This is my first post to the forum,

I have the chance to aquire an example of the above loco but would like some info on it first,

What scale is it, 1/29th or 1/32nd?, Most of my stock is 1/29th.

What were these locos like, how do they compare to more modern Aristo/USA trains stock?

I cna’t seem to find any info about these online, can anyone help?

Regards

Craig

As its probably my loco you are inquiring about its a bit unethical for me to brag it up. However I can confirm it is noted as Gauge 1 on the box and with its slightly smaller size than my 1:29 diesels its probably near 1:32.

Uses NWSL power trucks.

Any other queries I’ll answer if I can. Smooth enough runner but beyound that I can’t offer much as I didn’t use it for more than a couple laps around the indoor track.

Hi Andre,

Thanks for the reply, it wasn’t your loco i was enquiring about though, there’s another one on ebay here in the uk, but i’ll be watching yours with interest now!

Craig

Craig ,
Where are you situated in the UK ? You may have noticed that I’m from Uxbridge . I am within a short drive from a well stocked Garden Rail shop if you need any help .

Craig, I responded to a similar query elsewhere. Not sure if you saw it or not. As Andre noted the locomotive is 1:32 scale. It’s major flaws are the fact that the turbo charger section was left out and the locomotive shortened by that much. Also, since these locomotives are quite old…dating from the late 80’s and early 90’s they do not have the detail relief that we are accustomed to on today’s locomotives. I’m planning a rework of my locomotive to bring it up to current standards and will try to make it more acceptable around my 1:29th stuff. If you are planning to purchase one I would suggest you use MTH passenger cars and not USAT as the latter cars are too big.

Oh, and welcome to the group. Hope to see you around.

Hi Mike,

I’m up here in sunny Scotland!!

I live in Falkirk and have a large collection of G scale which i display at model railway shows up here.

Most recenly I exhibited at my local Falkirk exhibition where i was awarded the trophy for best layout which was voted for by the public, there’s a pic at:- http://www.craigsrailwaypics.fotopic.net/p36514136.html

I noticed the F40PH on ebay and still might make an offer for it, the only other 1/32 loco i have at present is a Lionel GP20.

I’m hoping to get started on my garden layout in the summer too.

Nice layout , looks fun to operate .
The offer of help obtaining things still holds good , even if you are a Scotsman . Actually , I better shut up , my son was born in Scotland and is bigger than me .
I hope you enjoy the site , there are some very helpful people on it .

Hast thou experience with nwsl bricks in large-scale useage?

I scrapped all nwsl loco parts several years ago.

Locals who insisted on using their .6mod for even railbusses have scrapped them, too.

Garich/Sunset Valley did a 1:32 E-8 several years ago.
nwsl bricks.

Just check out the usefulness of said items in the larger outdoor-type railways.
