American Friends' Invasion of Ottawa 2013

Chris Lyon sent me the links to 3 videos he shot during the American Friends’ Invasion of Ottawa 2013. These are well worth watching for those that could not make it this year.

Not to get into Canada last time I checked. You needed a passport or enhanced drivers license to get back into the States…

So technically no, but if you want to come home you might want to bring one of those along.

YES you do need a passport to be sure that they will let you into Canada…we do have proper “Border Security” here in Canada, no-matter what you have been told, or what you read, down there…

Very nicely done, Chris. It allows us to relive the event.

As for proper “Border Security” - I called ahead to warn them about Ken, but they still let him in.

You decide.

Nice…much better to watch than what’s on TV!

Fred,

Thanks for the clarification. I thought the Canadian gov. only required a birth certificate from the states, but US customs wanted more. It’s been a while since I’ve been up north. But no worries, with a passport.

Nice videos!

If I hadn’t been there I’d feel like I had been.

Looking forward to the stills taken that day by Chris and our interviewer.

I agree…good stuff and thanks for posting!

Thursday nite, while we all settled in for a pizza dinner, Chris Lyon and Bill(?) provided some entertainment.

Ken;

It is “Mike” Hamer on the mouth organ…

Ahh, Thank you Fred…for some reason “Bill” stuck in my mind…

Nice pics Ken.

The pic you described as becoming the brakeman(your right foot!) was part of the switching moves that resulted in a beautiful sawby. I’d read about them in MRR circa 1988 but had never actually seen or participated in one. It was excellently done by Ric and Jan.

Being we are on the West Coast. Tk’s for the posting of the photos and video… Look like a real fun time there. We enjoyed the post.

We have now made it to Long Beach Island, NJ after a great week of running trains and lots of comraderie. Lots of THANKS to Fred and the IPP&WRR crowd, plus Doug, the Finger Lakes gang, and Shawn and his family. It was also great to see Jon at Shawn’s.

The videos are fantastic and I’ve shown them to many people. Even told the story of knowing Mike, from only his videos.

Doing family stuff now, but did get to work on cleaning up steam engine and a new tool box / carrying case for the KVRwy M-7, 44 tonner, today.

Excellent!

I have created a little photo essay on the invasion and the IPP&WRR. 13 pix and commentary. I just finished proofreading and correcting it. It’s yours, guys… but I cannot post pix here ever since the site upgrade.
If you PM me: johnleforestier AT yahoo dot ca (fix the spelling), I’ll gladly forward it on to you.
Cheers!
