Alternate to composition for ladder track rails

Soon I’ll stain it then I want to add a trim/lip piece around the edge so I can ballast it.

Don’t forget to keep the lip well below the rail head. Some locos, the Acc live steam Shay for one, have parts that extend below the rail tops. My raised section used to have J-Channel to hold ballast. Had to cut it all off when the Shay arrived.

Terry, how far apart are your post spaced, and what is their diameter?

@Jon, thanks for the tip. I had planned to keep the lip level with the top of the tie. But, that’s good info to know.
@Bill, the post are 2" dia. They are spaced 4’ apart just to keep it even. I think 5’ would work as well. The curves need a post at each joint which are roughly 2’ apart.
