With an ever-expanding railroad, RCRR has acquired a couple more ALCo cab units for our longer-haul freight duty. This brings the total up to 6 cabs and 1 booster. Here’s our latest newbie, ex ATSF #58, taking its first run with my oldest, most reliable set, the D&H. Once #58 fully breaks in, we’ll see what sort of tonnage this trio can handle!
Like the BlueBonnets! Not a D&H fan myself, but I had thought about doing BlueBonnets with reflective red striping for the Freedom Central’s first diesel scheme. Decided to go with “LibertyStripes” instead.
That trio will look really nice when all three painted to match.
cool!
I think I can become a D&H fan! They look great. The SFe WB always does.
Speaking of expanding, that’s a lot of track laying around!
What’s that white stuff there??? Yuck.
Thanks guys!
Plan is to keep the SF red in tact, although i may reletter it to RCRR. I kind of like the variation a little bit, and helps to tell the story of where the D&H scheme came from. The FAs are painted like D&H sharks rather than PAs, with the difference being the angled corner between the cab door and engine room door. On the SF unit the paint lines are all curved.
Joe, Now that the snow is melted fully…(Yay!)
I will be adding some stone to help lift up the dips in the existing mainline to level. Once that’s complete, I will begin the task of transforming the horseshoe curve at the end of the line to form a detour for live steam. The current railroad is a 500ft loop, but the straight tracks are set next to each other to look like a double track mainline. Since the new expansion will be heading downgrade, I want to be able to keep the horseshoe curve at that end of the railroad available for live steam ops. This will probably require a crossing and two #10 switches.
Beyond the curve, the new mainline track will begin to experience some downhill grade for few hundred feet where it should level off again for another few hundred feet.
Wow, very nice. Please keep showing the progress!
…and welcoming ex PRR #9626 to the RCRR fleet. Now undergoing heavy testing with EMD buddies (F3b battery unit, and GP7)
Decided to try out FA-F3b-FA lashup.
Now with GP38 leading:
After a successful day of testing, I’m thinking the two new FAs and the F3b are next in line to get Rockwall Canyon green and yellow!
Nice! I hope they have (or will have) sound. The best part about an Alco is the sound (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Thanks Jon. That’s a lovely sound. It reminds me of that old D-6 Cat I used to skin, out in the wheat fields of the Palouse.
I agree John there’s nothing better then the sound of an Alco at work. Nice video.
