Large Scale Central

ALCo HH600 Walk through from the beginning

Locate any existing drawings

Locate any existing protoype pictures

Locate any models done in other scales, I find this most helpful with roofs because roof pictures are hard to find for the average engine

Use existing 3d files and build off them if they have similar parts, here I use a basic frame that accepts both Aristocraft and USA Trains motor blocks

You can see on the right side of the above picture I can begin superimposing the drawing files on the frame

I can then begin to design the hoods and cabs

I try to make the sections follow the same lines as the prototype so that joints don’t have to be filled

I then can go back and add as much detail as I need to for the given model appearance

such as louvers

Draw 1 louver then copy and paste them till yer done

I’m now at the process of double checking the files and generating STL files to send to the printer, which might be a while got a few C-415’s to make for orders

Nice  Someday I will get proficient with 3D CAD. I began working with SketchUp a few years ago then got frustrated because I couldn’t figure something out and put it down. I’ve now forgotten everything I’ve learned (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)

Main parts are on the printer

first of 3 sections for the long hood

Cab section

Front hood section

Main body sections completed, now working on the frame pieces

Test fitting the frame, the motor blocks are NOT the correct ones by any means

The last picture shows the T-6 and RS-27 projects

Now time to glue and sand the joints and get this ready for primer paint (Krylon rattle can)

Eventually you will have one of everything. You need a bigger railroad.

Edit, because my stupid smart phone can’t make a decent post.

You sure do nice work, Mark!

I only have 4 engines on the workbench though from L_R HH600, T6, RS-27, C425 ( the C430 isn’t that far away from printing

Oh and I just started drawing up a Jordan Spreader also

And the Damn Shark.

Or the RS-1?

The damn shark is in service already

Ok, so is the damn shark kit for sale now?

Boy David, you must really want one of those, “Damn Sharks”. That’s good because every different locomotive Mark creates gets me closer to a RS-1 and I need 2 of them for my Spokane International RR. I actually already have 2 USA, S-4 torn apart so I really only need a base frame and the short nose section. But I’m waiting patiently.

Shark, ha ha (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

The PAZ is assembling the new SW-1500 acquisition…

progress

Having some issues with the Blunt trucks so I test fitted the HH600 with some generic trucks to see how it’s gonna look on the rails

looks great, Mark… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
