Mornin’, All. At last I have an excuse to shut up about the AccuCraft Royal Hudson, since mine [build #41, just a few minutes older than Phyl Wright’s #40] finally got to me after aaaaaallllll that time a’waitin’. Plus an enforced vacation in HM Customs & Excise, of course.

After fighting my way through the mummy packaging, it finall emerged into the thin sunlight here in UK, and I could say hello for the very first time.

I have a few things to say -

Firstly, no mere piccy, no matter how good it might be, can truly give you the reality - this is one most beautiful model of a beautiful loco. The paint and finish is impeccable - front to rear, and the whole thing exudes quality.

The few other minor things can be dealt with via e-mail to Cliff.

If pressed, I might even tell you all about it when I get it working.

Knighthood…where, when…why was I missed ?

Terry, did you not submit my name? I drink better booze than anything the K clan ever smuggled across the pond…I don’t drive maidens into deep water…I even offer to assist wayward ladies to safety…!!!

I don’t build boilers, but I do BBQ on occasion, and you won’t see me buying a Steamer before I find the long sought after “Lock Master’s Daughter” of my dreams.
Yes, I think I could handle a knghthood. Even if it means having to spend a few minutes with Jugears or his mother. Please enter my name ASAP, please, Terry.

I see they offer butane or alcohol fired.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of one over the other?

Thanks.

Joe, this only depends on your personal preference for gas or alcohol.
From what I hear about this model, both versions are excellent and
behave in the way that one expects from gas and alcohol, Best, Zubi

I saw the alcohol-fired loco hauling as many heavy passenger cars as they could put behind it - one observer said there were twenty-one and counting. That loco was alcohol-fired.

As one poster notes, some say tomaytoes and some say tomAHtoes - I just picked mine by watching the one loco I had seen in action. Now I have some of each.

Well, we finally got to see what this loco could do when it finally got to strut its stuff on a real track- some pretty necessary ‘tweakwork’ by the redoubtable Geoff Calver over here in rural East Anglia being responsible.

Steam came up, with the loco’s own blower, after about ten minutes, a few meters of running on Geoff’s beautiful track in the fine afternoon sun to clear out the cylinders, and with a short train of about ten cars hitched up - and we were off for over an hour’s run.

The performance was exemplary, the steam production prodigious, and the sound was glorious Even the coffee was pretty good, for a Brit, but then he HAS spent time over in God’s Country - even hitching a cab-ride on the real 2860 [deep envy].

I’m not going to say anymore about it, except to publicly thank Geoff Calver for all his work and tweakments, and the boys and girls over the water, with whom I shall soon be spending soon time swapping lies, alevai, for their encouragement.

To Dick who designed the boiler in the fust place and advised Geoff on the all the tweeks that needed doing, Dan, David, Alan and Phyl, Charles Bednarik and Ryan, and of course, Cliff of AccuCraft - thanks, all.

If anybody is interested in seeing the RH doing its thing, log on to YouTube and type in Royal Hudson tac, courtesy of the efforts of Martin Dawes, wizard of editing.

Looks pretty good to me.

Best to all

“Good Run” Good lookin engine there TAC!!! The Regal

She’ looks great Terry. And what a nice track to run on  Perfect for as mainline loco. Must be a little nerve wracking running through that yard at speed. Sure would suck if someone had thrown a switch the wrong way.

Was great to meet you and Ig up in Canada.

Mornin’, Jon - good to meet up with YOU too!! As for fumblies faffin’ about with the yard switches, well, that could have been a tad expensive with just one of the side-spurs occupied by an Aster Big boy, Aster Berkshire, Aster Hudson, two Aster Shays and a ten thousand dollar scratch-built steam crane to hit, but over here Gauge 1’ers just do not touch track settings once the loco is out on the main line. In fact, that afternoon most were sitting almost comatose from one of Robbie Squires’ famous gigantic lunches, and couldn’t have moved if their pants had been set afire.

Trevor Goodman notes, from his comment, that the Accucraft RH sounds like a sparkie, it’s running so quiet and smooth. I have to give full credit for the eventual success of this locomotive to Geoff Calver, who laboured long and hard, using his many years expertise from building Aster locos, to get my old clunker finally singing like a lark, and at last Dick Abbott’s wondrous boiler design can be used to its full potential. I hear that David M-K had ‘only’ 45 cars behind his at a recent Lakeside Steamers’ event that I was unable to make in time. It was still making steam and blowing off with THAT load ahint it.

In fact, if I can find a kind-hearted and dzhenerous soul who can help me out, I have a whole bunch of movies AND stills from the invasion together with a load more RH movies to send to anybody who can post them for me. Here in my neck of the woods AOL has stopped us posting stuff to Youtube unless it is less than half a Mb…that lets out ALL my movies from the Invasion for a start… I can put them all on a DVD and mail it.

Best to all Invaders
