Advice on fitting QSI sound to 80-ton Shay

This ia really addressed to TOC, but anybody can chime in.

My pal broos and I have got ourselves a Bachmann 80 ton Shay each, and seeing as how we are tight-fisted to the point of being legendary, we bought the version that is soundless, having read the multiple horror stories of the factory system.

I know that Tom LaPointe has shown that DCC and sound in this loco go very well together, but me and Broos don’t have DCC, but often run MTS on the half dozen or so LGB locos we still have, and Train Engineer on the rest of our forty-something collection of steam and dismal locos.

Now, I have a number of H0 Broadway Limited models, as well as Sunset Models, and all have the QSI sound system in them, and seeing as I’m about 50% deef, they sound pretty good to me. I also have a few Aristocraft Dash 9s, too, with the QSI sound in them, and they also sound good to me - operating all of these models using the hand-held QSI engineer unit.

My questions are -

  1. Just how easy is it to install the G Scale QSI Shay sound, and

  2. Will THAT system still operate from the hand-held unit?

If this has all been asked before, remember that Broos and me are dithering old farts, and he’s a lot worserer than me, having had a near fatal stroke a few years back. I’m simply getting old pretty fast here in dank and gloony yUK.

Best to all
