Yeah …you are probably right!

It’s worth pointing out that there are grades of cement board / hardi backer.

There was a big discussion a while ago, some people had theirs fall apart in a year, and others (like me) had it down for 10 years. Each claimed to have the “correct” data (of course).

Turns out the stuff that is smooth both sides and classified “waterproof” is just that, and the cheaper stuff will delaminate in weather. Moral, get the expensive stuff.
