AdBlock plus software

After much recommendation, a few months ago I loaded this software for Google Chrome. I thought that it was great as it blocked every and I mean every ad including the forum ads. The penalty was that the sites chosen were slower to load (awaiting the AdBlock extension).

Over time my computer has slowed to a trickle with finally this morning my computer froze. I had to do the master reset with the on/off switch. When it turned back on, the AdBlock extension software did not load and my computer is now back to normal ramming speed. Is there a connection or a mere coincidence?

I am happy to tolerate pesky ads if I can retain my computer speed.

I have been using AdBlock for several months now and haven’t noticed a slow down. I do run CCleaner every day though.

Me too. Adblock plus for a few years and CCleaner every day…sometimes more then once a day.

Joe and Matt,

many thanks, CCleaner downloaded for a trial run.

Tim, you do have to reboot every now and again. I leave mine on constantly and often forget to re-boot these days but some software does not release all the memory it allocates and eventually things can get slower and slower grinding to the pace of a slug.

Andrew,

I start my computer every morning and shutdown late at night. Computer is definately faster with AdBlock plus gone, even with ads loading.

I CC clean every day AND clear all unwanted cookies twice a day except forums shown on AdBlock I have signed into. Lappy shows no probs.

I run Wise disc cleaner and Wise registry cleaner just before I shut down every day.

Between them they keep this W8 computer pretty clean.

I also have AdwCleaner which I run now and then. It picked up an infection the first time it was used but now never has any catches thanks to the Wise programs.

I don’t have any slowing problems on Chrome with AdBlock and Ghostery.

Funny, I hardly ever turn mine off, never run any cleaners etc. No problems, perhaps a virus once every few years but I usually know why, because I trusted some crapware. It gets rebooted when the power cuts out every now and again and when things get sluggish. I run Comodo Antivirus which does a scan every few days. I hardly even back-up. I have a raid 2 external disc setup.
