Acme Wheels ?

Can anyone tell me about Acme wheels? Trainz is selling a few axles of them, but with no info like wheel size.

E.g Acme 1001X-21 Black Metal Wheelset

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acme-1001X-21-Black-Metal-Wheelset-/292063630631?hash=item4400595527:g:~doAAOSwCU1Y0hZJ

From the picture it looks like a tread diameter of about 32mm, and they look similar to the USA CNC machined wheels.

Looks like only TRAINZ sells “ACME” …

They use Acme when they’re unsure of the manufacturer…

They work fine, unless you’re a coyote.

I take it no-one ever heard of Acme ?

You mean:

  1. the definition of the word,
  2. the company,
  3. the references in the Warner Brothers cartoon,
  4. or the machine thread style?

Greg

5 or the town in Pennsylvania

No, I meant Acme, the model railroad wheel maker.

They use Acme when they’re unsure of the manufacturer…

Red might be right . . .

Edit: Red is right - on Trainz.com they have all sorts of stuff from “Acme”, including a Gargraves controller! Guess I’ll have to call them . .

Edit 2: I called and they claimed Acme had been in business for 40 years. (So how come Google never heard of them?)

Maybe TRAINZ has been using “Acme” for 40 years!

There is an Italian company called A.C.M.E.

(found with google in about 15 seconds… with search phrase “acme model trains”… Pete you need to check your search setup, no offense, look at what search engines you are really using)

Yes, but most of those are not wheel manufacturers!

One set turned up today - they were Bachmann 24.5mm “small” wheels not Acme. I was hoping for slightly better ones. . .

Yep, did not find them, although the Italian site is interesting.

You did not say what you needed them for.

The rest turned up today. A mix of Bachmann small, large, and some metal wheels that I can’t identify - two different types. If anyone cares, I’ll post a photo.

Nosy, ain’t you. I have all these little LGB cars that are light and desperately need metal wheels, so I thought I’d experiment.

Two sets of Gary Raymond wheels turned up also, and they are a much nicer alternative.

Last I checked Pete, it was a public forum ha ha!

Inquiring minds want to know. You cannot have any secrets! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
