AccuCraft sparkie K27 gets a makeover.

mrs tac and I drove over to the edge of the country today to deliver my AccuCraft K27 to Peter Spoerer, electronics maven in G1 stuff here in yUK.

After a bunch of demos, we decided on fitting a LocoSound unit that goes most of the way to simulating steam sounds, with inertia, correct chuff-rates, a bell and a tunable whistle. He’s also setting me up with the teeny handheld controlller/TX-er that’s so simple that even I can use it.

With the ever-increasing requirement for us to go out to the public with our large-scale trains, and bearing in mind that for most folks who are not LS-ers, but may have seen it, it’s all ‘Thomas and Friends’, the sight and sound of a nice big chunky NG Mike and a string of Phil’s Narrow Gauge cars and cabeese might be something worth seeing.

It’s going to take a while as Pete has the G1MRA AGM and show this weekend, and twelve other locos to do afore he gets to mine, but he’ll be making a publicity video on his own beautiful home-track when it’s done and dusted.

I am looking forward to seeing & hearing the unit when it’s done.

a Seán - you can be sure that it will be the subject of a fulsome driving test - I’ve been invote to go collect it when 'tis done, and the gentleman concenred has the most beeeeeeyoooootiful track to run it on.

Given the cost of the Phoenix unit hereabouts - upwards of $500.00, and being a registered cheapskate working on the principal that there are probably less than ten folks in the UK who have ever heard the real thing, or care even less, I’m hoping that it will serve as a platform for others to avail themselves of this excellent product.

AAMOI, Mr Spoerer, peeering into the open gulf of the tender, chanced to notice the gigantic 8 Ohm speaker unit that completley fills the floor of the tender from one side to the other, and commented that it might actually lift the tender off the track when it was operatead. 'twas but a jest, but it should sound mighty good.

Now all I need is for somebody who has done this before to advise us on how to get to the inside of the model,
