I’ve bought a new Accucraft Shay (two-truck, three-cylinder) and it’s fine except that the specification doesn’t tally with anything i’ve seen before, or anything pictured on the net, or (crucially) anything in the instructon manual, which is for an earlier model. The notable differences are (a) the butane gas tank isn’t in the cab, but in the oil-tank . This is fine, as i think it’s a bigger tank, answering earlier criticisms. But the oiler is also an entirely new design, with a screw-top filler instead of the old one with a cross-bar screw (no problem) and a strange screw-type valve on the side of it. This is the problem . What is this screw, and what does it do? It it’s some kind of adjustment for the oiler, then how do i know if it’s set correctly? Ther is no reference to this at all in the manual. Maybe I’m paranoid, but although the loco runs well, i note that there is a supiscious absence of oil fall-out from the steam exhaust, although there is evidence of water in the oiler blow-off. Can anyone help?- Alan
Hi Alan - Welcome to LSC. Could it be the drain/blow-down valve? The earlier oiler had the drain/blow-down on the bottom.
Thanks a lot Jon. Yeah, you’re right, the blow-down valve was on the bottom, but it’s still there! But the new screw is still a mystery to me. It’s on the side of the lubricator, opposite to the water-glass. Thanks again - Alan
Alan:
Can you take a picture of it?
It may be a drain for the steam line.
Or a shut off for the sight glass.
David Kapp said:I looked @ my new Forney and it is different than yours. It has only a steam line running into it.
