AccuCraft Selkirk at Stavers....

It seems that AccuCraft are really moving onto the Canadian theme, with the appearance of a mostly RTR CPR Selkirk live steamer at Staver’s in Portland OR last weekend.

Dick Abbott - King of Boilers - has designed another winner, it seems, especially as it promises to equal or better his Royal Hudson in performance.

Once they sort out the problem of getting this long -wheelbase rigid loco to negotiate less than 18 FOOT radius curves, I’m betting that they’ll have buyers for all fifty they plan to build. Mind you, such a loco needs more than a Charlie Brown track of that there is no doubt - a layout after the style of Pete Comley’s might be adequate, I’m certain.

Go team! that’s Jerry Hyde, Dick Abbott and David M-K, with apologies to anybody I’ve left out!

PS - I hope I won’t get into any copyright issues by posting a link to the photographs taken by Mr Leech of Delta BC here - http://forums.mylargescale.com/18-live-steam/33433-new-products-accucraft-pipeline.html - if so, I’ll pull the reference on advice.

Hi Tac,

As you have stated AccuCraft have gone Canadian again with the Selkirk. As they did with the Royal Hudson and Pennsy T1 Accucraft asked Dick Abbott here in Ontario to evaluate, test and improve where he felt necessary. The loco arrived in February and by early March it was ready for a final test run before being taken back to appear at some shows.

Dick called me and asked if I would video the run so that he could send a copy to AccuCraft. I can now release a shortened version of the video. I ask that you forgive me for the shaky video but the snow was so deep as to make a tripod useless and it was ****** cold at 15 degrees F. However here are my efforts.

Now before you sit back and enjoy please note that there are only going to be 50 of these manufactured so you had better phone your local dealer and order yours very soon.

Thanks for that, Alan - very much appreciated. However low the number they end up making, it’s moot as far as I’m concerned - a loco like this is way out of my league, I’m willing to admit, even if I knew somebody with a track with 36 foot diameter curves.

I’s a real beauty, of that there is no doubt, and I know that Peter Szolga in Delta has been twitching at the thought of it.

BTW, Dale Thorburn and his dad send their best wishes to you - again!

Take care.

Absolutely beautiful locomotive. Thankfully out of my range and also the fact that I am trying to stick to Fn3

Not too shabby, eh? Dick’s track has suffered in the heave-season, but nothing that can’t be got right.

Great-looking loco, too, making easy work of Alan’s Grove car consist.

Dick’s backyard track is about the same size as the village I live in…

Ho hum.
