Thanks Tac. Jason Kovac is working on the Forney trying to figure out whats going on. Im sure he will chime in and explain the issues he has seen. Im still new and learning all the termonology etc… I think my slide valve ended up being ok but there is an issue with the reverse valve.
A Lathe is on the list. I really want to start learning more especially since I really caught the live steam bug Lol.
Tac -I beg to differ on how the valves are made at the factory. In no way are these a “amazing tolerance” or “microscopic fineness” Yes they start with a ground SS rod of 5mm, its then chucked up on a lathe grooved to general depths, drilled and parted. Flipped around drilled and tapped and let go. I don’t understand why all the edges are so sharp on the grooves that you can cut you fingers on the burs. Also the lathe that they are turned on has a worn chuck as the OD has basically 0 run out in a collet but the wide groove OD wobbles all over with over .010" run out on the main steam port. As to this particular loco, there is still an issue being worked out with the reversing block.
Tac,
I’m way out of the loop, I guess. What’s the “Surprise” 4-6-0 of which you speak, if neither the SPNG or the T-1 … and new … I’ve not seen it yet.

Hmmmmmmm. I was told that they were made on a centreless grinder to ensure maximum tolerance matching characteristics. Just goes to show that you can’t believe what you are told, eh?

Tac. the T12 was not so much a surprise. Like we do here we follow Ians site for all the new UK products as its there way before the US site. You must follow the US site for the new products here. : )
The posters on MLS opined that it was a bit unexpected - that they hadn’t really believed it was ever going to happen, that’s all I’m saying.
