Accucraft C&S 2-8-0 No60 manual or help...

I have just taken possession of an Accucraft C&S 2-8-0 No 60. It was as new, boxed etc but but there was no manual with it.

I have looked on the Accucraft site and the manual for this loco is not listed.

I would like to find out about the wiring.

It has a four pin plug that attaches to the tender.

In the tender there is a pcb as shown in the photo

There are plunger pick-ups on the tender wheels for power from both rails.

If I was to DCC it how does the pcb figure in this (there is no rear light)

Mike,

Maybe hard to believe but not much ever comes with Accucraft locos. when I got my C-19 they delivered a two page manual I believe, and an electrical diagram was not one of them. I believe the PCB you are seeing is for lowering the voltage for lamps only. there are others more knowledgeable as to the DCC side of things, but as long as you are going to use track powered DCC , just add the decoder to the power feeds off the pickup plunges.

You would actually disconnect all the wires from the pcb, or most people would. You could try to retain the motor on off switch and the sound/lights switch, but no real reason to.

Also, there is a linear regulator in there to give you the 5 volts, and probably another regulator for the 1.5 volts.

I’d pull the pcb, disconnect all the wires and hook up to a decoder.

You will need to validate the wiring, I have found some models have a regulator IC on the loco itself to run the headlight.

Thank you boys.

I was thinking the same way but just wanted to find out if there was a manual with the wiring diagram just to check that there wasn’t anything ‘strange’ lurking in the loco.

Cliff at Accucraft has said that there is a replacement motor for the C&S connie. It has a 60:1 ratio, much like the replacement for the older Accucraft C16. It will be slow but will be able to tackle my 1:10 inclines!

Mike, actually most Accucraft manuals with the wiring diagram have errors.

Certainly my K4 Pacific manual had some dangerous errors, if I had not checked the circuitry myself, I would have toasted some components.

Mike, Turn the loco over and look at whats written on the side of the motor. If its GM8712-31, 60.05:1 ratio, you already have the 60:1 gearbox and it is a crawler of a loco. I believe the C&S 60 came with this gearbox in it from the get go. It was the earlier C-16s from three years before it that came with the GM8712-21 which was a 19:1 gearbox. These earlier C-16 engines ran extremely fast and had no pulling power. I think many people refitted those with the 30:1 gearhead motor, to get more power and still reasonable speed. Accucraft on the 2nd run of the C-16s fitted the 60:1 gearhead motor and also did on the C&S 60. Check what the motor has written on it first, and try it on a test track with 24V supply. I suspect it will crawl and have lots of power.
