Accucraft (AMS) 1/32 40' Steel Side Reefer - Sadly disappointed

Anyone else a bit disappointed in the 40’ Steel Side Reefer cars?

Just received a few in today to hopefully use with my MTH Hudson & VO1000.

The wheel sets are the best thing on the cars IMO, I was hoping they would have the level of detail that there larger 1:20.3 scale cars have…

I guess on sale they are not a bad value, but if paying full price…I think I will pass next time.

I like the box cars better. I bought a set of 6 reefers, but won’t add any more to the roster.

I may grab a couple of those also to see if I like them better.

These guys seem to have a good price.

Great, thanks!

What are you finding disagreeable with them? From the distance and size of the photos, I can’t see anything that jumps out as being glaringly wrong.

Thank you for the link John

For one, the car doors don’t open on these. The level of detail I think comes up short when compared to my 1:20.3 cars from the same manufacturer.

The roof hatches are very cheap feeling, like they are going to just fall apart at any second.

For a car that sells for $100+ I was expecting something better, if these were always in the $50 range I would be fine with them…but they are not.

Yes, I think that they now regret not making the doors function… and I have to agree with Vincent that the roof hatch details are somewhat cheesy… I don’t think the doors really have to actually operate, but when they do, the hinges and operating rods look so much more realistic than cast on detail.

I prefer the USAT reefers in this case.

I got my two I ordered. Seemed okay to me, guess I’ll glue down those latches on the top doors. I posted pix of mine in the Reviews forum, mist typed the word reefers as ‘reegers’, but could not change that. Oh well…

I’ve got several of these. I don’t find non-operating doors to be a bad thing. Fewer parts to get lost out in the yard, and they make the the body more solid.
