Large Scale Central

? about your RR

Hey Gang of LSC’ers.

Wrestling now with the Mik 2022 Build Challenge, I would like some of your input. At LSC we have 4-5 different scales we model in, and a standard door in 1:32 looks silly in a 1:20 house…hence some of the problems for the Mik Challenges. I have tried to find information on just what the gang here models, and have come up blank.

So… Would you ALL (not just the Mik guys) please answer a few simple ?'s about what you model? I’ll compile the results and let everyone know what a weird ( OK, diversified ) bunch of guys we are.

Thanks Guys…

  1. What SCALE do you model in?

Dave, all my builds are 1:24. The only 1:29 was because of the door you sent for the Challenge a while back. My locomotives and stock are all over the place, so 1:24 is a happy medium for buildings, cars, figures, etc.

  1. What TIME PERIOD?

Supposedly '50s and '60s.

  1. What MOTIVE POWER do you run? (S) steam (D) diesel (E) electric overhead

Steam with some diesel on the mainlines.

  1. Where is your pike? (O) outdoors, (I) inside, (B) both

Both. The indoor is a hybrid I guess: it’s protected from the elements under the porch and extensions.

  1. Do you SCRATCHBUILD? (Y) yes, (N) no

Yes, but scenery and stuctures only; painting and weathering on the locomotives and rolling stock.

Hope this helps.

edit: can’t spell.

Dave,

From Hawai’i…

1. What SCALE do you model in? 1:24-ish PLAYMOBIL scale

2. What TIME PERIOD? 1880-1940

3. What MOTIVE POWER do you run? (S) steam (D) diesel (E) electric overhead: S (steam); we do have one early diesel

4. Where is your pike? (O) outdoors, (I) inside, (B) both: O (outdoors)

5. Do you SCRATCHBUILD? (Y) yes, (N) no: Y (Yes), we try!

In short, as long as the project does not mandate the use of a specific tool or process beyond our holdings and capabilities, we can probably imagine a way to fit the theme into our version of Hawaii railroading, discover a suitable project from the contents of the scrap box, and glue and paint our way across the finish line.

Thanks for soliciting input!

Eric

Answers for David Meashey

Referring to your MAIN layout. Presently no layout. Sometimes set up a track on our carport for the sparkies. Mostly run the steamers on other folks’ layouts. (almost 75 & running on the ground makes it too hard to see the sight glass & pressure gauge)

1. What SCALE do you model in? Have stuff in almost all the large scales, but mostly 1:24 and 1:22.5.

2. What TIME PERIOD? Fourth Age of Middle Earth

3. What MOTIVE POWER do you run? (S) steam (D) diesel (E) electric overhead All three in track-powered electric, but now like my REAL live steamers best.

4. Where is your pike? (O) outdoors, (I) inside, (B) both Hope to have another outdoor layout set at about 42 inches high. Easier to run live steam at that height.

5. Do you SCRATCHBUILD? (Y) yes, (N) no Yes, scratch build and kitbash whenever I need something that is not made commercially. Since my railroad is set in Middle Earth, I find myself in that situation a lot.
