A wonderful day for working on the layout!

The sun is shining, the temp is in the mid 50’sF to low 60’sF, winds 0-5kts and variable. a beautiful fall day.

So, I’m working on the layout, right?

Nope, I’m building a fence to keep PFC Gunny in the yard because he likes to run out in the street. The speed-limit is 45mph or whatever you think you can get away with, and since I’ve never seen a traffic cop out here, the sky is the limit. Fortunately, I finally finished it, so I can start working on the layout tomorrow. I’ve got some issues to clear up on the raised portion, then I can start laying track on the ground.

My grandson (3 years old) is coming to visit around the holidays, whenever his Papa can get leave. Grandson gave me strict orders to have some trains running when he is here.

On another note, my other grandson (15 years old, 6’3 inches and 215 pounds) plays tight end on his football team. My lovely bride and I went to see his game on Friday. They overcame a 19-0 deficit at halftime to go ahead 27-26 with less than 2 minutes left in the game. A hail Mary pass on 4th and 15, a safety who tripped over his shoelaces, and the game ended 34-26. I was emotionally exhausted. I was so proud of those kids for playing so well and not getting down on themselves after the first half. They came back, took the lead, and were behind on points when time ran out. They did not loose the game.

Steve, I think you just described the real “American Dream”. How can a person ask for more? You’re living the dream bro. This is as good as it gets and to want more is nothing but troubling. Savor every moment.

I made use of this beautiful day too. Got the last of the track that needed pulled up on my indoor layout outside and painted, and the lumber cut for a roll-a-round for my box cab. Tomorrow afternoon will be rainy according to the weather report so I’ll make best use of the morning to tidy up some details. There’s clear weather ahead…but it’s to be in the 40’s so that will be my leaf raking weather…again.

Raining in the Big Sandy Valley…And No7 keeps wanting to misbehave, I hate birddoggin 'lectronics…The lumber pile to finish the loop taunts me…

Beautiful day here, too, in SE PA. Got the grass cut, retreived my Walt Disney’s Railroad Story from storage, ran some errands and installed a curved switch on the layout. Waiting on the rain to show up here…

Yesterday , we had one of those squatty/rainy/blowin nasty days. It cleared by evening as the front went through and early this am, we have beautiful clear skies. Hopefully, I can get leaves raked and grass cut today. I am in the planning stages of the OPs Session and during this time even the grass cutting is put in to the calculations. Its all 10 days away now and the setup begins.

I finished up a thru truss I had been modifying. Riddled a little more ballast. Completely gutted a Bachmann 4-6-0 I bought at the swap meet. I’m going to use it as a wrecked static display at the bottom of one of my canyons.
Then put out all the winter water troughs out back at the wife’s stable. Whatsa winter water trough? They are electric heated versions of the summer troughs.
I took a look at the millions of leaves on the layout and said, “Naw, leave 'em till spring.”

Yes, it was, and there's me stuck indoors struggling with the latest idiotic "cost saving" scheme dreamed up by our beloved employers ... Forecast for the weekend is rain :( But I have plans for the spring ...
