Large Scale Central

A visit to the indoor layout of Bob Springs & Harry Kelley

First I’d like to thank Bob & Harry for allowing me to come out and visit. Bob has done a fantastic job on the scenery. The trains ran, a little, but we talked a lot  Hopefully, I’ll get a chance to make a return visit and spend a little more time running trains  I took a lot of pictures, but had a lot of mixed results. Very strange and inconsistent results. But this may have been a mixed blessing. If every photo had turned out, I’d have probably posted 50 photos. Some of the best shots didn’t turn out, but I still came up with a few worth posting. No Photoshop, but a few pictures are cropped.

This photo looks almost like a painting, to me. Different, but I like it.

More to come, probably tomorrow. Ralph

Nice! Good to see the PVRR Celebrity Train making the rounds

Marconi Goats was there too, but having coupler issues. I should have gotten a photo before I pulled it :frowning:
Ralph

Hey Ralph,
So glad you came for a visit. This was Loganville’s first sream special. I could get to liking that!
We’ll do it again soon.
Bob Springs

Bob, Who makes those nice ground throws? They look pretty nice

Craig, they’re Sunset Valley–All brass–adjustable–Work GREAT. they are $21 each but worth everypenny.

Thanks for the info. I will have to keep that in mind. I’m looking around for high stands, but they need to have a small headblock spacing. All I’ve found so far are ones for narrow gauge tie spacing.

Craig

Craig, check their website. They have these too. Nice!
Bob

The headblock spacing is to wide for what I want to model. It’s close but still a little wide. I’m looking at 18" center to center for the headblocks.

Craig

Could you use a brass adapter plate or is it an aesthetic thing?
Bob

Aestetic/Prototype problem. The problem is I’ve got my hands on the NP standard plans for turnouts, and I’m trying to build a turnout to standards as much as possible (not 45mm either). I may just end up building my own stand out of brass, as I have all the prototype information. If I had a mill it would be much easier… I’ve thought about possibly using O scale stands, but I haven’t had a chance to measure any of them.

It may be a rabbit hole that I’m wandering down…

Very nice Ralph. Great layout Bob. That steam engine looks good on the layout.

A few more shots from yesterday

I was going to bring the J/S coaches. After all, that would make more sense as a “special” on a modern RR. But Ken had something come up, and didn’t make the trip from Pennsylvania. So, I thought it would be appropriate that Ken was there in some way or another
