Large Scale Central

a very different US steam prototype

This would convince me to try live steam

That is very interesting!! I have never seen or heard of this before. This would be really cool to see in live steam

Aaron I would love to see a live steam version of that.

I say go for it! Very neat prototype I’ve not seen before. Also has a very futuristic look for it’s era. Neat to see that on top of plate and rivet construction columns.

Didn’t Marc Horovitz of Garden Railways magazine have some thing similar

Yes, it was still on his layout a few years ago when he did an article about repairing a damaged track section in GR

Was there an article about Marc’s engine… if so any idea about which issue…

I am not familiar with Marc’s work, but there was an article in Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette some years ago about the prototype for that. If memory is correct it was a salt railroad in Utah I believe. Quite an interesting prototype.

Nossir - the prototype for Mr Horowitz’ railway was the Listowel and Ballybunion Railway in Ireland.

The new Lartigue locomotive would make a fine addition to the G scale Thomas Line

Esp. the green one

Let’s send this to Bachman

The magnesia salts railroad was in the vicinity of Trona, CA and was indeed a type of monorail, however the locos it used were gas powered, built from Fordson tractors.
