Large Scale Central

A versatile tool

Hi all,

It is “amazing” what can be done with the software that’s intended for layout design. As I mentioned on occasion, I’ve been using CADrail for about 12 years. Cat’s meow to design layouts of any size and complexity.
BUT … every once in a while I use it for something completely different. This past week it was for designing the various sprint courses - BC Sprint Championship is happening on the weekend.
The Chief of Race provided a letter size drawing from one of the previous races - complete with a 100 meter reference bar.
Scan the drawing, convert the image to a DXF file, import the DXF - that was the hardest part since ver.8 didn’t want to do it.
Once imported, adjust the size to a decimal scale and the rest is a “piece of cake”. Need some small changes? no problem, a matter of minutes!
Of course the best part is measuring the distances, a simple matter of adding up all the dimensions.

Now that is one thing that just can’t be done by sitting there and doodling on a pad, while taking “approximate measurements” by guesstimation. Or at least I haven’t seen anyone do it that way, yet. But one never knows, does one?
