A unique crossing in Australia.

A friend sent me this link to a rather unique crossing located in Australia.

He said the mainline is 1067mm gauge and the sugar cane crossing it is 610mm. It is a neat way to cross the 2 tracks by avoiding a troublesome diamond.

It’s been done before, and in New York to boot! (Sorry - neat video, Todd. And that modern one is automated.)

The CNJ Bronx Terminal had a similar crossing to access the engine house. From http://members.trainweb.com/bedt/indloco/crrnjbxt.html

"The method of accessing the enginehouse was of a most unique design. There were removable steel stock inserts used to cross over the switchpoints of the running tracks and to access the enginehouse lead track. "

Love it ! Something new for us to try and model.

That’s just up the road from here at Bundaberg - a sugar town. It’s about 250 miles north on the coast
