Large Scale Central

A thought for now

I was driving along !-15 here in Lost Wages which follows along UP railroad tracks and first thing I see, a Diesel pushing a line of Containers but it was facing the wrong direction !!! After a few long minutes, I saw two Diesels up front pulling the freight heading North. My curiosity was the amount of containers heading North. I thought we are in a recession but someone is buying something. Maybe it’s a load of LGB that got lost long ago !

Oh well, now about the rain fall. Four days this week produced more rain than all of last year combined. Mud here is the stickiest stuff we have ever seen. Almost like wet cement. Dries like concrete.

I know there are many places with weather that is much worse and leaves much more to be said.

Where ever you are, it just might be different for better or worse.

Cheers from the Old Fartd in Lost Wages…

Stuff out of Mexico heading north.

Pheonix had their worse rain and wind in decades as well.
They lost some of the smaller vender tents at the big Barrett-Jackson car auction.

I guess that system is heading my way tomorrow. The weather this year has been something especially for you guys in the southwest and west coast. Forcast are calling for up to 3 inches of rain. Usually out this way is not a big deal like in the drier climates but our ground is frozen solid. All that rain has no where to go.

Say Darryl, there in Lost Wages, I heard a rumor that St. Albin’s Station has shut down its LV store. Can you confirm that rumor? I got 6" of rain in my gauge for the week, more than we had all last year, and 150% of normal so far this year.

St. Aubin Junction, Las Vegas to Close

It is with regret that I must inform the general public that St. Aubin Junction in Las Vegas Nevada will be closing its doors. We believe this move is necessary in order to keep our prices low and maintain a high level of customer service. All future business will be conducted through our Illinois flagship store, St. Aubin Station.

In these tough financial times it is harder than ever to stock and maintain a brick and mortar retail store. Our two biggest west coast customers, California and Nevada, have unemployment rates at 12.6% and 12.3%. A growing trend in this unique industry is the move towards internet and phone orders. In order to continue providing the low prices St. Aubin is known for, we must reduce our overhead.

This is a truly niche hobby where fierce competition benefits the consumer. St. Aubin is proud to be the leader when it comes to extremely low competitive prices. I believe we will be better able to service our customers by consolidating operations into a single store with a central U.S. location.

I would like to thank all of the customers who have supported the Las Vegas location over the years. I hope the quality of service at this location has made an impression upon the customers and that they continue to maintain a relationship with us. We look forward to seeing and hearing from you at the 2010 National Convention in Tacoma, online at staubintrains.com, on the phone, and in person at St. Aubin Station in Illinois.

Yours Faithfully,
Jason Sullivan
President
St. Aubin

Sure enough a few weeks ago, long gone. Now only one fair train store left plus some all purpose hobby stores. Good times have departed as there are no plans for a swap meet either !!! I suppose the internet is causing the Mom & Pop shops to close all over the country. Bummer...

eBay has the best deals IF you are very careful in what you are looking for as it’s always , Bidder Be Aware…

Dunno about 3 inches, but we're supposed to get rain and above-freezing temps on Monday -- on top of the frozen muck on the ground, with most of the street drains blocked by said muck, and followed by a prompt return to below-freezing temps on Tuesday. Should be "interesting".

Ahh, Chris…don’t be so sad…we won’t get enough to wet the back of your hand, and Spring is just around that corner, six miles ahead.

BTW; what are you doing out from hibernation so early. The next mild spell starts on Monday......!!!
