I know it looks like I’m going backwards but I actually got a lot done this weekend. The next step is to put the windows back in the body, make some for the cab and put it all back together. What is not seen is I jumped wires from the rear trucks for extra pickup power since these short wheelbase locos have problems on longer switches.

Well not all the bugs… I put it all back together including windows, roof and rear railing and the engine does a pop wheelie which means I still need to add more weight to the front. Other then that it is coming along.
There sure are some neat ideas and cool projects in this forum.
I wonder how many projects get modified as they go? Or maybe it would be more efficient to talk about the 3% which don’t? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Scratching and Bashing sure has it s challenges but that is part of the fun right?
To combat the tipping issue that I thought I had under control I am using wheel weights attached to the engine but I’m running out of places to put them. If I can figure out how to open the smoke box front or the top of the steam dome I could jam some fishing weights in there.

Above the pivoting/trailing truck is the floor of the coach correct… do you have anything between the truck and the floor?
What about a spacer … to push the truck down/hold the coach up?

I was thinking about using a light spring between the rear truck and coach floor sort of like what bachmann uses on their 4-6-0 lead truck, but it swings so wide to make it around curves that it wouldn’t work. My test track is a 5’ diameter S curve and it needs to be able to handle that due to a pinch point on my RR of the long horseshoe tunnel built around 5’ diameter curves.
I was able to pop the cap off the steam dome, boy those Germans have tight standards, and dropped a 3 ounce fishing weight into it but it wasn’t near enough. I started piling weights on and it looks like 7 ounces will get the job done but where to stash it?
I’m thinking about getting a box of 50 caliber lead balls and putting those in a bag and stuffing as many into that dome as possible. The smoke box front has to come off but it is really tight and I fear damaging it if I pry too much.
This will be one heavy unit when it is done.
Get bird shot, the voids are smaller. Best idea was to make foil packets to fit your spaces and glue in.

I’ll second John’s motion. Adding an illustrative example of a useful product.
Bird shot is a good idea but I ended up having on hand a box of 50 caliber lead balls that I was able to pound to shape and slip in many different spots which gave me the needed weight.
Next time I’m at the sporting shop I will have to get a bag of that bird shot.
I have been away for several days so progress has stalled but now the railbus is getting closer to completion.
Today I thought it would be neat to put the Stainz tail light on the back of the bus so I set to remove it from the cab, which wasn’t easy and it was just about off and wouldn’t you know it I broke the bulb. UGH. Now what? I do have a LED somewhere.
When the big storm clears up I hope to get a photo for you guys.
Today I had a chance to give the Railbus a go and a few design issues presented themselves over uneven track so it is back to the drawing board.
I might need to add some pressure to the rear truck by bending the swing arm a bit.
