I was recently inspired by Bob and his post about a coal trestle he is building. He shared a picture of an O scale RR that had a coal trestle and sitting on it was a camelback loco with a slope back tender.
I was Smitten!
I had a look at the Piko camelback tender and was happy to find that it was very close in size to the Aristo slopeback tender.
It would have been an easy swap but mine has sound and the speaker was hitting the slope so I had to raise it about 1/2". I used plexi and wood for reinforcement. I used tough mahogany to make a strong support for the screws to hold the slopeback to the Piko frame.
I put it all together and found that the roof that shelters the fireman was a bit too close to the coal load on the new tender so I raised it by adding a piece of plexi and drilling 2 holes for screws to hold it in place on the back head of the boiler.
I dressed up some pipes and rails using metallic sharpies and this funky looking engine is now ready for service.
