A Sad Parallel…

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table…everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be…quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now lets see…our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your child’s 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn’t speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press “one” to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than “Old Glory” are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it’s time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

This time I will agree with you. I’m a firm believer in America is for Americans and the national language is English. If you want to become an American with US citizenship you must come through the front door like everyone else.

The US was founded by immigrants but these immigrants came here not only to find a better life for themselves but to contribute to a better America. I also believe that social benefits are for citizens…with one exception…a one way ticket home. Come here legally, work hard, become a citizen and then you can have the benefits and the right to speak your piece. Prior to getting your citizenship either shut up or go home. If I were to go to another country I would expect to either prove my worth or pack my bags and go home.

In my opinion the US is getting too crowded. It’s time to shut the doors and especially stop the flow of illegal immigrants. Let’s make the US a role model for the rest of the world by taking care of our own first. We give too much away to the poor of other countries and much of it goes to thieves and government hoodlums and darn little gets to the people that need it. And when it does, we are not appreciated.

I haven’t look on the map where Marvin lives, but didn’t a large portion of Texas once belong to Mexico and was then “adopted”? Real meanies would say “Oh that was only to be the largest state in the Union!”
Which was true 'til the USA got “such a deal” on Alaska from the Russians.

There’s a song about some one calling someone where the biggest state in the union - Alaska - is mentioned, was it Michelle something or other.

Ahhhh, Michelle Shocked, “Anchorage” back in 1988 :wink: :slight_smile: a Texas girl, no less. :wink: :slight_smile:

Actually ALL of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and most of Nevada and California were part of Mexico till the Mexican-American war, after the war the border of the US was supposed to be just north of Mexico City, but a diplomatic screw up reset the border to todays. Imagine how different Mexico would be today if it had been part of the US for 150 years…actually thats my solution to the immigration policy… ANNEX MEXICO! :wink:

…then add Oh Canada! Plenty of room on that flag :smiley:

Better study the History better…Texas was independant long before the Mexican-American War.

Actually, Vic. I have a better solution. Let the south have back their Confederacy and let THEM annex Mexico. :smiley: The remaining USofA can easily deal with Canada…:lol:

The war is called off for lack of interest.

My ex’s 20YO daughter claims to be an ultra conservative. She says that people on public assistance who cannot be transitioned into the work force should be rounded up and put into camps (ala Auswitz?), and that the death penalty should be expanded to help free up prison space. She also advocates closing our borders, forcible deportation of anyone who overstays their visa and a bunch of other stuff. Of course she is young and still knows everything.

OTOH her latest crusade du jour is “Child Abuse”… Which, if you listen to her long enough seems to include any form of discipline, or worse yet, getting kids psychological help… She’s even gotten a summer job at children’s services.

People who see the world in terms of black and white with NO exceptions scare me…and they seem to be popping up in frightening numbers

I agree with you Mik, the ones with the black and white vision are scary. But also there are those that see in ultra liberal psychedelic colors that are very frightening too. But the worst case is when one of the two above becomes a political figure or power. That leaves me shivering.
