A remote control rig for $19.99

A dude on Facebook mentioned this and said it was working for him.

433Mhz and the remote has an antenna. Working voltage 7-50V, Max working current 7A.
The 3 orange relays can be used for anything. They are just on/off switches tied to the S1-S2-S3 buttons.
It is a bit wider than a Crest Revolution.

Interesting. There’s a 12 Amp one at Amazon also.

Thats… interesting. And $10 for another RX. I wonder how difficult the pairing is if I wanted to have like 5 remotes and have them each be able to control all of my locomotives…

I finished rewiring the Mason tender, and as it is all connectorized (see Project 4 thread) I decided to test this controller. With the tendor out of the way, I only needed a plug for the battery and another for the motor. I put the motor block on rollers and plugged it all in.

As usual, the instructions are inadequate. They talk about an ‘indicator’ LED, which you might think was the big red one. But no, there are 2 surface-mount LEDs on the actual board. The one bottom right lights when you apply power. The other, in the middle of the board, starts flashing. Looks like a ‘bind’ indicator.

The instructions say ‘Press the button of receiver’. Nowhere is that identified. I finally noted a little push-button under a loop of wire, which I suspect might be the antenna. I assumed it was a Bind button.

I noted these on the photo. To make it work, I think I held down the Bind button while the LED was flashing, and when the LED went solid, I pushed a button on my remote - #1 in my case. After several attempts, and unplugging the board to reset, it finally flashed 15 times and turned off. At this stage the big red ‘indicator’ LED turned on - my interpretation is that it meant ‘bound’.

I unplugged again, started it up, and when the onboard LED was flashing I pushed #1 on the handset. The LED went off, and the big red indicator came on.

I’m in mode 3, ‘train’, so I tried the arrow button. Nothing happened. However, the "S+"started my loco’s motor. Wow, all this for $19.99. The picture of the remote on the instructions tells you what the buttons do.

I think my previous post describes how much fun the pairing is, though I am now a lot more proficient.
I didn’t think you can pair more than 9 receivers? However, the instructions say ‘press any button’ so maybe you can have as many as there are buttons.(18.) And it says the receiver can learn several remotes with different codes.

I guess you’ll have to try it.
