A piece pf train history gone (Station burns)

A piece of hisstory was lost this week in my area. The Sparta trrain station burned down on Monday morning. Cause of fire is unknown still. Shame to see another piece of histry destroyed. It happens way too much.

Thats a great shame.:frowning:

Two possibilities, insurance, or crackheads trying to stay warm…who owned this structure, private or public?

Shame, at least it’s a small enough structure it should be easily re-buildable if the funding can be found. Won’t be the same but better than nothing and alot better than the bus stop shelters Amtrak used to replace some stations.

Shawn,

Great loss. I have not been in Sparta in 30 years or more. That looks to be a great prototype for model railroaders, not too big for a branch line / narrow gauge.

Hi Shawn:

On a positive note this is an opportunity for the local community to raise funds, combined with the insurance proceeds, to rebuild the station. There must be an abundance of documentation from whch to build an exact replica.

The station was owned by a private developer.

It is such a shame to see these old stations burn up. There are not that many left around my area in fact the last time I passed one that hasn’t been torched or demolished I first think what a neat building then second thought is it is only a matter of time. A few in the area have been turned into restaraunts and a really nice stone station in Bridgewater has been turned into a Burger King.
It is always sad to see them go.
