A passenger for my OR&L Carter Coach

While I was waiting for the mold to cure I started working on my first passenger for the OR&L coach I built. This is Princess Kaiulani. I’m still designing a hat and maybe a handbag, but its pretty close to ready to cast.

Wow. Very impressive. I think I need to go and try a few more figures myself - I need to learn how to do faces and hands better - I don’t think any of mine will hold up to a closeup photo!

Nice work.

Holy moly!! That looks great!

Did you make the head separately, and then attach it to the body? Can you offer any advice on how to make the skin so smooth?

Yes, the head was made separately, in fact, it was cast in resin. I have several head molds now, it makes it figure making a lot quicker.
If you are using sculpty to make a face or any other part of the body where skin is applied it is best to use a smooth pointed object like a probe to smooth the surface. You will need to dip the probe in rubbing alchol while you are smoothing it. Once you’ve backed the piece, braze anything that is standing up, and then paint the surface with some even strokes using flat acrylics. Let the paint dry for at least 48 hours, and then make your mold. Thats how I got her frace smooth.
Keep in mind that this effect is great for women, but it is best to let mens face stay a little rough. Same goes for older women with lots of wrinkles.

Awesome tips man…new stuff for me to try!

Thanks for the very helpful tips!

Glad to help. BTW, I checked out your sites. You all do such good worker and really have a grip on weathering and scenery. I’m still working on those skill as I transition from HO into outdoor.
